hi all
I have about a 45mm body lift at the moment but would like to go a bit higher. I just scored a meter long uhmwpe rod for cheap as. but just wandering what is i needs to be done to install a 2.5" body lift. fuel lines, steering ect??

Its mainly just the radiator shroud which you will have trimmed anyways. There are 2 links underneath that are stiffeners for the drivers/passengers seat belt mounts that go from chassis to the body, if you haven't removed them yet, then just throw them away.
the steering should be fine, there is alot of movement in that joint.
The fuel tank filler clamp will need to be slackened off during the lift.
You will probably need to do something to the gear/transfer box levers, i think they can be bent??, or you have to cut a bit out of the back of the tunnel.
Everything else should be fine, just lift very slowly!!!

Hey mulover,
Should be really easy as I have an electric fan any way. Nelson and I just done a 2" body lift on his mu yesterday and we made a steel plate with 2 holes in it to lenthen the seatbelt stiffeners works very well took about 15mins to make them. 0.5" higher is'nt going to be must different apart from his is an auto but that made it easyer. I will be lifting my tank any way but for the time being will it be ok? I have allso bent the gear sticks before so shouldnt be to hard. I think theres only one fuel hose that will get me but should be cheap for about a meter.

there was a post a while ago that was from an US magazine ( i think) that did a 3 inch body lift on a MU ( was red in clour) .. listed all the things that were modified/replaced/custom fab'd for the lift.. ..

Just read that the MUs steering is fine with a 3" body lift. So just have to look out for fuel lines I only know of one that I might need to make longer.
I think I might go this away.
What do you guys think??

I had 3" B/L in mine and you will have to do the steering as it is not long enough just doesn't reach, your gear sticks if manual will need lengthing and a lot of stuffing round to fit, also the 4 bolts in the back are impossible to get as they are m10x1.5p by I think around 200mm long (memory not so good), but it is possible and has been done...

Can you remeber what you did to lengthen the steering??
When I was doing my power steering seal I had a really good look at how far the sharft would go and where it would be and it seemed that it would work fine.
What year is your MU??

I think you can also put a spacer under the steering box end. Certifier in NZ wont be happy about welded suspension and steering bits

Hi all.
I went with the 3inch body lift and im about 80% done. Got all the spacers in and all bolted down. All the fuel line were more then long enough and the steering is to long now I cant get it off but why do I need to. I just need to lengthen the 2 gear sticks and bend them so they are in the right place, Make the plates that lengthen the seatbelt stiffeners. and then a test drive.
Ill post some photos tomorrow if anyone would like to see them?

With the tank you'll probably only get about 2.5" out of it, I'm sure there is something in the way from memory as that's all I could do mine.

Let us know how u get on at wof time. I interested in doing somthing similer to mine. Only thing stoping me at the mo (apart from it being a broken box) is the ARB winch bar I have. I not sure what to do to raise it securlely.

Hi all,
Have a little update to do with the 3" body lift.
First of all I have lifted the fuel tank up 3 inchs so now its nice and high.Didnt get any photos of it but if you want any just ask and ill get some up.
Have allso lifted the TJM bumper to match the body lift by welding a 3" plate on top of old mounts and drilling the holes 3 inchs higher and a little bit of cutting.
Have installed a AirFlow snorkel aswell.

Those TJM bars mount differantly than the ARB bars do by the looks of that. I am looking at ways to lift my winchbar when I do my 2" lift. I need to be careful because I dont want to rip anything off when I winch and as there is well in excess of 10 tonnes preasure in there it has to be Strong. Whe the new forum is working I will put before and after shots of my MU up.....

Got a WOF today and it pasted with a 3" body lift only thing thats was going to fail was a park light that i got them to change when i was getting it.

Technically its an illegal WOF but you will only get caught if you have a crash or followed by a knowledgeable cop. If this happens forget about claiming insurance. They get a bit funny about these things.
Its stupid but the law requires body lifts to be certified. Even the certifiers wanted body lifts of a certain size to be exempt but thats life. Once you have your 2 inch suspension lift borrow some 33 inch tyres and get the cert done.
On a side note get rid of the KN breather. If your in water deep enough to need the snorkel water will enter the engine through it
