4WD systems in SA can supply a purpose built snorkel for the MU, contact them and say you are from clubisuzu. Also if you go to the www.clubisuzu.com website and look under mods there is an article about fitting a Rodeo AIRTEC snorkel from TJM. More fiddly but worth the effort I believe. Matt.

I don't know of anyone that does it, though a 4wd place should have some idea. What area are you in? I fitted the snorkel to my truck by myself.

Hi Folks, i also just fitted a snorkel to my 1995 Bighorn (trooper), a Safari one, only think i dont like about it is it says jackaroo down the side, but what the heck. it's the first one i've seen here in the UK. looks smart, sounds awsome, and agree the car pulls a lot harder, espcially from 30mph (50kmh). guess now i have to try it on a cold night!
a question i have is which way round do you have the scoop at the top? as i have it facing the front of the car to ram the air down there, pops says (and he is wrong as usual?) to have it facing the rear of the car so it doesnt suck in dust, and water? any thoughts?
Adrian
ps only took 9 months to fit the thing!!

Most of the experts say face it back so rain doesnt get in.However the newer designed snorkles pretty much take care of this with only minor amounts of rain getting in and then only under extreme circumstances.I have had mine facing forwards for 3 years and only found water in my airbox once. 3 provisos to this though when its definatly worth turning to face backwards snow will block the vent at the top solidly enough to stop the engine. This isnt a big problem here in warm Wellington traveling in bush its easier to hook the snorkle with it facing forwards It looks funny facing backwards

For starters you need to remove the guard you will need the correct hole saw. Mark all holes including mounting holes drill then check for fitt if all is good paint exposed metal. Before mounting reposition guard & mark position on inner guard for the through hole, you may have to cut some off the snorkel tit for correct fitment through inner guard. ( I have looked at cutting more off the tit & getting a 90deg rubber elbow then run flex tube inside the guard that should allow you to then go into the airbox). Next fitt the snorkel to the guard tighten all bolts & refitt the guard THERE IS A BOLT THROUGH THE KICK PANEL. From there simply connect the hose supplied then instrall ram. Before fitting ram check for seal, start engine then place hand over snorkel if there is no suction you need to tighten your clips. This should be done very carfully. Postion ram, the A pillar bracket requiers some thought All information is given as advice & should be taken as advice. If you are not experience seek a profesional fitter. Dave

The Dremel is a gift from the God's when it comes to DIY snorkel installs. 3 of us used it on our snorkel install day last year (2 MU's, 1 HiLux). Don't worry about hurting the panels, your body goes numb and might convulse, otherwise it's a breeze.

QUESTION! Did anyone find any problems while fitting the snorkel? I bought the airflow snorkel just recently & got them fitted. There was 2 problems I found about the snorkel. 1) Plastic hose that came in the kit was 2 short, therefore I had to buy another hose and join the 2 of them together. 2) Snorkel wasnt flush to the guard, meaning there was almost a 1cm gap between the snorkel and the guard. There to fix the problem I had to slightly modify it. Now its only about 3mm gap. Im thinking, to fill in the gap I will need to get some black silicone put it between the gap to make it look like its flush within the guard.
So now im wondering if anyone else had this same problem with this airflow snorkel?

They are an absolute C*nt to fit.
If you get the angle just right they actually fit quite snug. But the instructions are simply wrong.
The angle of the pipe at the bottom end of the snorkle points too far down on mine. Making fitting the tube (Yes mine was too short also) a right bastard of a job.
I am still not happy with the seal between the corrigated piping and the snorkle. Something to fix sooner or later.
I would guess that the angle yours is fitting on is slightly out. Becuase that is what mine looked like before a whole lot of cursing and bashing by the panel beater who was fitting it.
This guy had fit dozens of snorkles to different vehicles and he reckons it was by far the hardest he has ever fit.
Good news is it goes better and that burble out the top of it sounds sweet!

I am going to manufacture my own using Marley drain piping!!! Great effect of painting it black afterwards of course!! So I will be making a catch tank for water with a tap at the bottom in order to release the water captured from river crossings and rain!!!
Another thing I am going to be doing is going THROUGH MY BONNET!!!! So I can just unclamp tube and fit pod when normal road driving done !!!
Will get you all pics when done - am making up the tubing to fit a 3" Pod on it right now!!! Should be simpler and better sealing as you can use Marley piping glue (obviously water and UV resistant) so should look different but good!! Might even go Polished tubing and spray it black!!

Ive seen several snorkles on many wagons up here made by Marley and they all seem to work fine even on V8 cruisers Only 2 bad points One they are relitivly fragile and two they all look ugly but if this Mu never has to look good who cares what it looks like. Why make a removeable snorkle The snorkle is always going to get cleaner and cooler air than can be found anywhere under the bonnet and if you use 3 inch downpipe theres not going to be any appreciable restriction.

I've got an Airflow snorkel on my bighorn but has never been connected(was like this when I got it) I'm just wondering if there's any place that sell all the attachment bits separately, by bits meaning from the snorkel to the airfilterhousing? Is it a different housing altogether or does it just have a different lid on it!?

Its all custom made from there. You have to move the fuse box as far as the wqireing lets it and make a new mount. You have to move the power steer resivour. you have to cut a new hole in the airbox and make a flange on this and seal the original intake and drains. Then its simply a matter of buy 18 inches of the right sized flexi pipe and fit 2 screw clamps. Easy!!!! Ill send you some photos of mine tonite if you like.
