I was told I would be looking at over $200(nz) each :ofor injectors for my Bighorn (3.1), but it cost me $25 each for servicing which has made a big difference.

to have 2.8 Injectors serviced and adjusted to a uniform opening pressure at Turbo & Diesel in Hamilton I was quoted about $100 for the four.

Regarding turbo servicing. I know of a turbo from a 3.1 that has had a new impeller installed. I think it was slightly bored out to clean up the mess left by the destroyed original impeller. Cost was about $600. Don't know if it means much to anyone. Place was a truck turbo specialist in Somerton. Cheers.

Just got my truck back and when for a quick trip.... Heres the wash up, Sorry its so long..
The MU Turbo was replaced. Some thing had caused the impellor to be damaged. I expect it was like that when I got it. The internal bearings are a non-serviceable steel ball bearing type with a ceramic cage. When you remove the drive shaft 16 ball bearings fall out and the ceramic cage becomes damaged (sometimes). This was the reason that mine could not be fixed. Some parts of the turbo are serviceable as Roger indicated ie impellor. So you can get out a little cheaper if you pick up the problems early enough and the mechanic is able to balance every thing back to spec. The cost of the 3.1 turbo replacement was $1584.00 AUD. First - Bugger!
Next the injectors….. Mine were worn, so worn that they were not, so they had to be replaced. The injectors are different on the 3.1 compared to the 2.8. I understand that they have a side port injection which aids starting or something like that, thus the cost extra. I have been quoted between $179 and $120 AUD you can guess which ones I put in. If it was a 2.8 it would only cost $78 each. Important note the 3.1 injectors must be aligned correctly or your truck will smoke like a chimney. Again, Bugger!
The valves were slightly out of adjustment, not a great deal though. So this was not a large contributor to the heating problem.
The pump pressure was set way too high and the timing was out. The last owner in Japan must have been a real hot head. This was most likely a contributor to the heating problem. I expect that the pressure was wound up for a little extra go. Third Bugger!
Getting back to the original topic 'Exhaust temperatures'. An exhaust temperature gauge would have indicated that some thing was really wrong early. A VDO gauge kit can be purchased for around $240. I would like one but my budget is a little shot at the moment. It is still on the to do list.
I was reading a 4wd Monthly mag article from Jan 04 and there is a 93 GQ Patrol that mentions the heating problem due to a high boost pressure (19). He has an exhaust temp gauge installed, he uses this to know when to back off and prevent overheating.
What makes me angry, this entire exercise including valves, timing and pump pressure was checked and set 13 months ago. At that time the Mechanic said every thing was fine and at the time no adjustment was required. I expect that his failure to understand the implications of getting the tuning 'spot on' is part of the reason why I am spending 2306 coins to fix a problem. It is an expensive lesson.
I am not sure if the heating problem is completely fixed, this will have to wait until the next road trip…
But… she has lots of go now (9 lb) boost. I am very keen to play.

I expect these guys are OK with standard, no frills mechanic work. But they did not 'cut the mustard' when looking at my MU.
