Alternater Problems

Well just as I was looking forward to mud tires and 15" rims - The Alternator on my Wizard says "get stuffed I soaking up that money."
Moving the A/C comp out of the way is definitely the way to go - got Alt out in about 1.5 hrs.
I think I cracked the diode plate when I was pulling the thing apart. Hopefully the cost of servicing the unit won't be too huge.

Hey there wizbru, i've got my old 50 or 55amp alternator sitting here, the vacume pump shat itself, but one the alternator had been running for a bit it seemed to charge ok, If the cost to recondition yours is too high then let me know and you may be able to make 1 alternator out of 2. You can have mine for like $50 or so if your interested but i can't garantee it to work.

The auto sparky at the south end of Johnsonvile did mine in 1.5 hours drive in drive out. Then did it again a month later when North Range Road filled it with mud Luckily second time was just labour.
2 places to try L Alexanders behind the Toyota dealer in Kent terrace should be able to rebuild the old one and or source a replacment. Hes probably your best bet as he aquired a whole lot or pirate Isuzu parts a while ago and is trying to offload them. Second bet would be Hutt city auto parts on hutt road but they only deal in new alternators

Well good news for Dad's bighorn job. I found the Consumers and Fair Trading Act on the net for him. Turns out their are times and kms spelled out that the dealers are responsible for the vehicle. His fitted into Catergory B which is under 70,000kms total traveled, under 3 or 5000kms (can't remember off hand) traveled since purchase or 2 months. Called the dealers but they said that was the old rules. Took print out down and they finally decided to pay Dad back the full amount including Autosure excess. Took a lot of persistance but finally paid off. ;D

Thats what I like to hear! A lot of people don't realise what their rights are when it comes to problems like this, or they just give up too soon.
