I will be recieving the snorkel for my MU in about 10 days. I was wondering from those of you who have one and have installed it themselves if it is difficult to do? Any special tools required?
cheers

Na... it's a quick job that will take you bout hour n a half. You will need a steel cutting hole saw which aint cheap.. If you no any engineers, might wanna do the job at his work shop n borrow a hole saw.. you'll also need to have some steel primer on hand for the freshly cut steel. Also so might need to watch out for the arial wires coz mine werent where they were suppose to be.. Have fun...;D

Everyone I know that has done it themselves said it was a total pain in the arse.
I paid someone to fit mine. Even they said it took 3x longer than any other he had done.

Which is why it's good to know an engineer.. .. would have taken me a lot longer if i didnt have the right tools.. The job it self isnt to bad tho.

I didn't have much fun installing mine. I had pretty much used every expletive that I know by the time I had finished.

I found it easier if you remove the guard, use the template(it is not accurate) drill holes position the snorkel & adjust holes till it sits nice on the guard in all areas. Make sure to paint all holes to stop rust. Depending on the position of your air box you can run the piping inside the outer guard(this requires more cutting but a better job). Reposition the guard to get an accurate position for either a hole or removal of some of the brace on the inner guard. If going with a hole ensure you are not going to cut anything inside the engine bay. If removing some of the bracing do it, then line up the inlet of the air box & drill the hole through the inner guard. The plastic tit on the snorkel that goes through the guard will have to be cut to about 60mm due to the angle. Where the piping will touch any metal surfaces i put some reinforced lay flat hose for protection. Fit hose to snorkel tit & re fit guard, if running in the outer guard simply zip tie to body work. If going straight through in line with the snorkel simply route the pipe to the air box. The stainless body bracket needs to be shaped to fit both the body & snorkel best done in a bench vise to get the 90deg first bend, fixing from there is straight forward. Fit the ram on top tighten all fixings & stand back & enjoy your handy work . Have installed 3 Mu snorkels to date & running inside the outer guard is by far the most professional. Hope this helps. Bugger didn't think about running the flex hose down inside the guard then out nearer the air box. cause i cut the angled plastic pipe and plastic welded it so it went though to the engine bay then the flex pipe also had to weld plates into the rail i just cut though! if i wasn't a panelbeater it would have cost hundreds or have been a very messy job.

I agree, what a #$%^& !!! of a job. Ended up running the flex inside the engine bay.

OK, having reflected on the process, here are the tips I can think of if you are fitting to a Wizard. The guards on a Wizard are different to a Mu so there will be a gap under the bottom of the snorkel once installed. I filled this with foam strip and black siliconed over it. Witchdoctor is right you do need to cut some of the pipe that goes through the guard off to get it to fit. The other option is getting a plastic welder to cut it off and reattach at 90 degrees rather than a down angle. You will need to take the guard off if you cut the pipe. I cut about 70mm off the top of the snorkel so the whole thing didn't stick up above the roof too much.

8-)Looks good JustinW. are the mu and wizards guards different? or it just bad snorkel design and wats up with the angle of that pipe thats meant to go though to the engine bay? where are they made it would be a easy fix when being made.

The Mu and Wizard Guards are different. The Mu guard has more flair and no plastic trim while the Wizard guard has less flair and a plastic trim. They are made by Gibson in Australia.

Thanks for the tips guys, but I had it installed today and the fella that done it said it was the hardest snorkel that he had ever installed. The F-ers at AirFlow sent the air intake hose about 300mm to short! You think that if the kit was made for the MU it would have the correct length hose and proper angle!
cheers
