Hi all,
When I go my MU, the rear window gas struts were alittle tired and soon died, so I managed to get a used set from a wreckers in QLD, but these are now on their last legs and so I'm wondering if there are any struts , from another make/model that I can get new that will fit the MU ? eg:say, like from a Toyota Prado, or a Mitsubishi Pajero, etc..

Why not get them re-charged? I did this with a set of sagged out struts on my old ute canopy a few years back - cost was $66 for the pair, and they were better than new afterwards.
You should be able to find someone in the Yellow Pages, or if you are an NRMA member I seem to remember ads for a similar service in the back of the Open Road magazine

the main reason I'm asking is that one set wont compress at all ( older set) the newer set looks like it's leaking oil..
but if they are repairable/regas-able.. I'll give it a shot..

Hi elysian If your not having any luck re charging em try nepean boltmaster in penrith or wetherill park as i bought mine 2years ago from em just took the mu there matched up a pair 1.5"longer stroke & heavy duty probably cost less than recharging (but dont quote me on it) they're still working awsome just press the bootlid button & up she goes + alot more head room too, if your 7foot tall that is ;D cheers muvit

if you find somewhere that sells them give me a yell! im in Brissy btw

Pig 75 arranged a group buy about a year ago.
Until I got the new ones the plan was to get them re-gassed.

LOL.. I just picked up a new pair off eBay for $40 plus $8 delivery .. Just wondering how those eBay struts went elysian. Did they fit and do the job. Do they fit the window when activated or you lift half way? That bulk order you guys mentioned before, what do you paid for a set in the end. Cheers Chris

Well in good old NZ what we do is we get a big bit of rope like when you tie up a ship at the port put it around your front tow thing run around to the back off your truck put it over the back window and pull it up .

Cheers Chris They fitted perfectly .. they don't act like Muvit's ( push the button on the dash , window opens by itself.. ) but one alone will hold the window open , and both together is great .. I just need to lift it an inch or two and then the struts do the rest .. Actually.. I'm not sure how Muvit's open the window by themselves.. the geometry is wrong for this the happen.. maybe Muvit's one's, while they fit.. change the geometry to allow this by moving the window up a bit because of wrong mounts and/or a lot of pressure... I'd need to see them myself to work it out ..

G'Day. My struts went flat ages ago. I think they were new when I got the beast and then slowly wore to uselessness.
I've just looked on ebay at the Frontera struts and they're $49.95 plus $7.90 P+H =$57.85 delivered.
Might have a look at supercrap auto and rippedco before I buy them.
If they don't have them then I'll get them online.

But hey i'm up for a visit Always good to have someone else pour the turkeys & loose at stick ;D at my joint. Then after a dozen or so i'll show you my magic button lol cheers muvit

Try this from supercrap! Cost about $30 and I sold my MU with it on after years of use and still going strong. Great cos it doesnt matter what the angle of the vehicle it will still hold the window up and a quick flick and it drops! 5min install!! Matt.
