Hi there guys I have a question... well maybe 2. I own a 1997 3.1 auto mu. I have been 4x4ing in it and have 15 inch steel rims on it that are the same hight as my standard 16 inch mu rims and tires. (about 860 from ground to top of fender thing both front and back) I bottom out a lot.. Im not to sure whether to get bigger tires ie 34 or 35 (I have 30s) or to raise my mu and get bigger tires. I was told if I raise my mu I will damage the gear box or/ and kill my diff.. I just want to do 4x4ing with friends Once a month with out bottoming out my mu and spending heaps of $$$ .... thanks

31 or 32 inch tyres fit no issue. It should be 31 inch tyres std or 265/70/16 tyres if 16 inch rims. On 30 inch tyres it would sit 880 so your springs have sagged a little so new rear springs and tweak the front torrision bars. A lift of up to 50mm will cause no problems but will alow 33 inch tyres If you do this expect to break the odd cv but these are not a serious repair. Beyond this it is possible but there is enough tricks and problems to make the results uncertain

I had the same issue with my 96 mu bottoming out on the transfer case bash plate.. I have since put 32" wrangler MTR's on and they have lifted my truck enough to clear most obstructions.. Am still looking at a 50mm lift as well... just for a bit of peice of mind.. and coz it looks cool...

I would suggest just extended shackles instead of new springs. The heavier springs make the MU a bit too stiff in the rear end (I have them).
But if you do get new springs get Jackaroo ones and not the Rodeo springs.
