there was noticable increase in reving and acceleration, but nothin to exciting, lets just see how my fuel consumption goes!

Sorry I took soooooooooo long to get back but it really has been a frustrating affair,.....!! As K&N Australia don't stock the one I want (E 1009 in the US, which I can NOT find on their web site anymore But did a web search and found it www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=E-1009 So it had to be shipped from US to OZ which takes about 6 weeks. Well I waited 7 weeks and went back to get it BUT they had forgot to order it . So they ordered it for me and again I waited 7 more week, this time there was a stuff up at the US end,.... . So we had to reorder it and finally 7 more weeks later I got it. It fits perfect and all is well after 5-6months of waiting, cost me $120. Again I stress that you just don't order what the K&N manual offers for your truck, just double check your own filters dimension with what you are ordering as there are about 2-4 different sizes of filters for 2.8 and 3.1 MUs.I hope others have a better time ordering theirs than I did Cheers Chris

sounds like u have had some troubles! glad its worked out for u though! you found much difference between your filters??? And i heard its better to have paper when 4wding due to the amount of dust that comes in, cause if its an oil filter won't the dust stick there instead of falling down?? just a thought

Thats always been the big question with paper v the rest. If you do a lot of dust it might be easier to stick with paper but remember its only the coarse dust that falls out of a paper filter The fine stuff remains traped and will block the filter. You cant blow it all out so eventualy replacement is the only option. KN style and foam filters trap all dust in the oil medium so do have to be cleaned more often but this clean removes over 90% of the dust and the other 10% doesnt affect there operation. I changed to a foam finner filter because when the snorkle was fitted they didnt leave much gap between the filter and inlet so the tiny bit of moisture that always comes down a snorkle would cause the paper to swell makeing the filter impassable to air. I was changeing the filter every 3 months. In 2 years Ive cleaned the foam once The inner layer was still clean

while on the topic i just purchased a uni pre-filter sock which goes over the snorkle inlet hopefully this should minimise the dust intake into the k&n so i dont have to clean it as often? we'll just wait & see i geuss. cheers muvit

Yeah I have seen those snorkle socks on eBay going cheap, was thinking of getting one too for those dusty conditions (Landcruiser Mountain Park for those who have been there know what I mean),...hehe
A friend of mine got one when he went to Cape York, he says they really worked a treat as he only had to give it quick wash at the end of each day (when in bull dust conditions) which left the primary filter good as gold.
Cheers Chris

Keep a eye on your turbo with the sock in the snorkel, I put one in mine and turbos hate oil based filters let alone two of them. So it started to suck oil out through tube on the rocker cover that goes into the air intake and then it run out of the turbo. I went and talked to people at MTQ turbo specialist and they told me not to use oil based filters on a turbo. ok my 2 cents worth. Cheers Bruce.

The snorkle sock is not oiled It is a dry filter. It is only meant to be a precleaner rather than a full filter. I have heard the argument before about oiled cotton and foam filters causing more restriction thereby pulling oil from the breather. This is exactly the oposite of what the foam and cotton filter makers tell us. They tell us there filters breathe better than stock. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Does your engine use more oil when the paper air filter is dirty? Im not convinced the oily filters do as good a job of filtering as the paper ones but this is more than made up for by the much longer clean/replace intervals. In the old days the standard automotive air filter was wire mesh sitting in a tank of oil hence the name oil bath. Some large machinery still uses this type of filter.
