While in Rockhampton today I was told about this MU with a V6 conversion, so I went to have a look. They have taken out the 2.8 deisel and replaced it with a V6 3.8 Commodore motor, running the original 5 speed gear box. The vehicle is one of the ute versions. I have seen it around a couple of times but never talked to the owner so today I put one of my cards in the car and hope he gets in contact and maybe get the full low down on it. The conversion was done by Rockhampton Motor Sports. It is sitting pretty go so the weight does not seem to be a problem. Will keep you all posted when I learn more. Cheers Bruce ps anyone want to sale me an unused MU cheap so I can do the same thing ;D

Bruce.. If it is a Ute back MU then it prob started its life as a 2.6 petrol MU not a diesel, a little easier to do the mod when the tank lines etc was set up for Petrol.
There was a mob in Sydney that do Ecotec V6 conversions to Rodeos all the time, so its not an uncommon mod. I asked about the Rodeo V6 and they said it wasnt worth the time and the resuilts were less than spectacular!!
So that would also stand to reason that if a V6 goes in well then there should be no probs fitting a GM 5.0L or a Gen III. Both been done beforeI believe also!
Something I will be keeping in mind if I ever get sick of the diesel.

Check out the "For Sale" section if you're after an MU ute. A couple of years ago when I first got the MU, I was passed on the freeway by a red MU- with a V6 sticker on the bottom right hand side of the tailgate. The sticker was just like the ones on the 3.2 V6 Jackaroo's in Oz- albeit, the sticker on the MU was one colour, not two colours like our Jacks'. Do you think a 'vee' engine will fit (easily, that is) in a 3.1 MU?

Hi Matt, this one had a 2.8 deisel in it, but what Iam wandering is the out put power of the V6 Holden motor compared to the Jack 3.5 V6. When I was in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago unleaded fuel was 80.5 a litre and deisell was 97.9 so if I ever have to replace my motor which is the best way to go, cause the MU is a cult machine and I will try to keep her as long as possible. I love it when people come up to me and ask what sort of vehicle it is and say it looks awesome, I bet we've all had that said to us. Anyway enough carrying on about how go our MU's are, Roger, I would say it would cost about $8,000 to replace a motor in the MU with a V6, and where are you going to get something to replace it with, there are some people out there that don't know what there MU's are worth, check out the Trading Post. \Iam thinging Yarno (our super modifier) might be able to sort this one out. Still hoping this guy might give me a call and take me for a ride. God a man turns 50 this year and thinks he's 20 Cheers for now Bruce

A Vee definately fits its all been done plenty of times before, be it in a Rodeo or a MU.
We all have seen the results of a 350chev in a MU, Justin posted the pis of that one.
You can get a Marks adapter for the V6 Ecotec and the Rodeos come out with the Isuzu V6, so the Jackaroo V6 would definately fit, they are the same motor origionaly.
Roger was the V6 MU definately a MU and not a Frontera, they came out with the V6 but not in the 2 door version. But as said it wouldnt be too hard, just a tad harder starting with a diesel, the wiring looms, guages, maybe fuel tanks (swirl pots etc) etc would need adjusting.
Everything is possible.

Matt, I'm almost insulted You can't mistake a Frontera for a MU. I actually tried to catch the bloke up a fair hill on the f'way- no chance. As I said, the V6 sticker was definitely on the bottom right of the tailgate. My truck has no stickers there, but Joe (remember from earlier posts, with intercooler hooked to unmodded 3.1 turbocharger) has a sticker there- "3.1 XE", that's where the "V6" was. This was a red MU too. If it was a diesel and a V6 sticker was put there for 'sport', how did he get the single colour sticker when the Jack's are 2 colour? I think I must do some 'surfing' now and see what I can find. Then again, it may have been a Wizard, but, I'm really sure it was a MU.

Ha ha Nah Roger Im sure you would know the diffence, its only those poor people who dont drive MUs that have to ask what they are!!
I also doubt it would have been a Wizzard, despite the similar body shape, under SEVs they could only import the diesels. I think you are right and someone has just done some good home work on their rig.
Makes me want to win lotto so I can mod mine more than Yarns!!!
mmmm, SAS, 80 series axles, marlin transfer, oh and what about a 6.5 turbo diesel chev, ugh ugh ugh!!! Drop the body off and find a single Rodeo cab, weld up a tube front and rear end.........
Ahh whats life without dreams!!
Matt.
