Going to replace my shocks now, which is the last thing on my list. Looking at Rancho 5000 at $130 each. When I order them what size do I ask for seeing as I have a slight lift for my MU? Anyone ordered these before and any reports apart from the normal. J

Easiest way is to measure how much longer the new shocks need to be compared to your standard ones by undoing the bottom bracket on one shock then lifting the back end off the ground measure how much longer it needs to be then add 10 or 20 mm for safty. Be carfull doing this as a Mu hurts if it lands on you. Also you need to make sure that the compressed length of the shock alows the axle right up to the bump stop If not you may have to lower the bump stop as hitting the shock limit this way is certain death to the shock wheras extension is not quite as critical

I've been looking into this for about a year and across the board more people use them and rate them better than most other shocks. But the reason for my post was for ten of you to come back to me and say 'mate we use Supashock 10.000's and they are far better and only cost $20 each!' J

I've got Rancho 9000's. If I remember correctly, about a 2 inch lift is allowed before you have probs.
oh yeah- cost $700 about 2 years ago.
Cheers

Fitted new rear shocks 6mths ago - Monroe Adventurers - for $240NZ including fitting cost. Very impressed on and off road and have really given them some grief on VERY tough river rock trips and 2 hard trips through southern mountains. Grade 3 to 5. Handled the lot with ease. Cobber had the earlier version - Monroe Gas Magnums - and got 85000km including 8 years major off roading from them. Good product and good value - coped with my rear shackle lift (35-40mm height increase) easily. Definitely recommended - Mike A.

Justin, Have you priced Billies / Konies both are used in up market cars & most winning motor vehicles be it off-road or on road. A mate of mine runs Bilsteins in his off-road racing buggie. He has had these shocks that hot that the shafts are blue but they still keep working. That alone sold me on my first set. They state that if you can break them they will replace them. I am running a set in my Hi-Lux that has a total of 12"s of lift, after 150,000Ks they are still working fine. At the time they were not much more than the popular shocks of the day. When i deside what i am going to do with the MU it will also get set. One other thing, there are only a hand full or less of shock companies in the world, two are mentioned above. Hope this helps not hinders. ;D ;D

I have a set of Dobinsons, must have done about 40,000 by now, no problems, they also did the lift for me. The shocks cost about $460 fitted I think. Cheers Bruce.

Hi Roger, they added another leaf and reset the others, it gave me a three inch lift from what it was. the torsions bars were cranked up and she rose about 1.25 inches there. The cost about $450. Cheers Bruce.

Well I've just fitted 4 Rancho 5000's on the MU and very impressed. They made a world of difference on road especially due to the fact my originals were stuffed, especially the back ones. Will give them a workout offroad in few weekends time. I ordered them from Autoalliance yesterday at 12.00pm giving them a measurement of the static length of the exisiting ones. And they were at my door step 7:00am today, $130.00 each incl GST and delivery. They took 50 minutes to fit all 4 with no issues at all. Very impressed with the service just contact Kirk at autoalliance@bigpond.com if your interested.

Hi Justin, At $130 delivered it sounds good to me, Do you remember the part numbers or static lengths for shocks? I am feeling lazy and do not want to take all those measurements myself... Thanks, Pete

Pete, The specs I gave Kirk was as follows:
The front shocks have an eye mount at the bottom and threaded spigot at the top, and at present measures from the top of the spigot to the centre of the eye 380mm when parked on the level.
The rear shocks have eye mounts top and bottom, and measure 420mm from eye centre to eye centre when parked on the level.
And they supplied me with:
2 x 5029 RS5000 Rancho 376-246 2 x 5113 RS5000 Rancho 528-326 EB1/EB1
Total was $520 Inc.GST delivered.
Just mention my name and absolutely nothing will happen. J ;D

Hey Justin,
Those measurments you gave are taken from stock standard MU shocks?? I might invest in some Ranchos myself.
Cheers, A.

Yep they were the originals on my 3.1 MU with a 1.5" lift. I spoke with the guy at auto alliance and he said they take the 'standing still on the flat' measurement as their approximate centre length, and then allow for extension & compression lengths. I'm not sure if a 2.8 has the same measurements, but the extension range of the originals is really impressive eh Yarno! J
