If your motor is the 4jb1t, there are a couple of them that have stuff to do with the fuel pump, and one goes round to the alternator i think?.
It took a while but i just traced all the hoses and found out which ones where no longer needed.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you still do need some.

Hey MuZila, I've taken out all the air hoses/valves, removed the mounting plate and disconnected all the electrical plugs that go to that bundle of mess in the engine bay corner. The only small rubber lines that are left are: 1 from intake piping/intercooler (somewhere after turbo) to the top of the fuel pump, 1 line that comes from the back of the alternator. I cut this line short and secured it behind the battery. The line has to be blocked off to avoid a vacuum leak (I put some silicone sealant down the tube, and threaded a screw down the end). Everything has been working as normal for many months . Andy.

Your butterfly valve is a exhaust brake similar to what is fitted to most trucks it is designed to close on over-run causing a build up of gas in the combustion chamber thus slowing the engine down rather quickly.

I've taken out my aircon system and exhaust warm-up butterfly. The hoses related to these would have to be kept if you have these obviously!

the butterfly is just for warm up its not an exhaust break

I only have the aircon pump thats going to get turned into an air compressor. The rest of the aircon stuff is gone now. As for the butterfly thing I better find out more on that. What is it and where is it?? Anyone got a pic of it??

On the 2.8 it hangs on the bottom of the turbo on the 3.1 its down the dump pipe. If youve never used the cold start button on the dash its probably siezed open anyway

Find it, chuck it, forget about it and put another switch in its place for something else. I know it gets cold in chch, but it gets colder in southland and i never used it.

Oh that thing. yea I never have used it. So thats all of them covered then. Time to do sume testing....

I have block my EGR on the exhaust side only could do some damage if Iwould not block the Intake side (the side with valve).

i always wondered what that button on the dash was for...so if it works,and your driving and push the button would it work as an exhaust brake then?or does it have an over ride in it?

It has a sensor or relay or something in there so that it only works when the motor is cold. if you want a exhaust break then you could hook up a valve to activate it on an independent switch. Exhaust breaks in trucks are known for rounding off cams though so if your going to do it be sure to only use it when your motor is fully warmed up.

id only tow when the motor is fully warmed up...always let the pig idle for 5mins before i got anywhere in the mornings.then give it some right foot;) extra braking power wouldnt hurt in my mu...

batosai Not sure what you mean. If you have blocked the pipe running from the exhaust manifold to the 2 EGR valves and nothing else then that will work in the same way as a full removal but these valves do fail from time to time which could cause a loss of boost. No damage

Yes that's what I mean, I only blocked that side so I should also block the Intake side so if the valve fails I can still maximize the boost because all the air is going to the combustion by this time.
