JIMMU, Did you get info out of Aussie Lockers for the MU rear?
I noticed that in the end you opted for the Lokka (4WD systems), any reasons why you went for them?
Cheers

Unfortunately Aussie lockers do not have an option for the MU diffs front or rear. After researching the options I am not so sure about using a diff lock on the rear. The auto unlocking functionality of them is by many accounts not perfect. Fine for the front which is only operational in 4WD but maybe not so for the rear which you use all the time, particularly on bitumen. So I went for an LSD in the rear and a Lokka in the front. LSD (which is fitted now) has made a big difference. Took the beast up some local (very) tracks through some small but steep and washed out hill climbs. Had some 2 feet of air under one wheel and she just eased out of it. The MU went from being mocked as a toy to "that thing is not bad eh" comments Lokka is being fitted to the front tommorow actually with a recon of the LSD. Am keen to get together with some other MU owners and do some 4WDing in the next few weeks give her a good testing. Jimmy.

Steve, Thats the Lokka form 4WD systems, a few of us from the foum have rung them only to find out that they only front lokkas for the MU, no such thing as rear one. I rung tham about a month ago, plus those prices are out of date, they are nearly half that now (unless they went back up).
Cheers

they don't really have a habit of updating much of their site so the only rear locker option is the arb. could the arb's compressed air be supplied from a tank, and not from a compressor? coz they cost much! (i know this is a dumb question, but what have i got to loose??!! ;D)

I would suggest you use your own compressor or tank. The price for a compressor has always put me off. A tank will however give you a limted amount of use, but people have used things like scuba tanks to give a lot of life. Also it's easy enough to add an air comprossor of your own. See my web site...

The Lokka is fitted and the LSD has been reconditioned.
So I took it for a blast over some rough stuff.
All I can say is ^%* it makes a massive difference from open centres both ends.
Well worth it.
Jimmy.

Jimmu, Did you install the front Lokka or did you get a mechanic to do it? If the latter, what did he charge you for it all?
Sounds like you'll be leading the way through the tracks now, just make sure you get pictures of the MU pulling out all the other 4X4s when they get stuck,... ;D

I got lazy (and very busy) so I got Superior engineering to fit it. Good guys that really seem to know there stuff.
$300 to fit the lokka and give the front end and diff a good once over.
Another $350 for the LSD to be reconditioned.
4WD systems reccomended them to me as the guys that best knew what they were doing here in QLD.
Local diff shop (Western Diffs) wanted $600 just to fit the Lokka + Parts...
Not sure about leading the way. It might be capable but I am a rank amature. But it is amazing the difference it makes. I want to find some killer soft stuff and see what it performs like.
It is scary how much I have caught the bug.
But you cannot work all the time.
When are we going 4WDing?
Should do a day trip in the next few weeks...
Jimmy.

Jimmy, if you want to test it then I really would recommended doing Land cruiser with Dave. Dave n Dee, frank and the boys will really take care of you and make you feel welcome, plus Dave doesn't like to be out done so could be a great battle between you 2. (Watch out Dave, Jimmys got a front Lokka NOW,..hehe). Plus the bush mechanics come in handy should anything go wrong (bent steering arms and wheel alignments?).
Wish I could go BUT I gots to fish ;D

I am looking forward to it.
I want to fit some rock sliders to the beast and drop the side steps off it too. Get some more clearance happening.
Jimmy.

Geez Jimmy, you are really doing up the MU quickly I find that its the cross member that is the lowest part of the car. Many people have stories about balancing on it alone, just ask Justin,...hehe I guess the side steps can go But I prefer to keep mine on for looks Cheers

Not when I phoned them 3 weeks ago.
Aparently the vehicles have totally different diffs.
Anyway at the price 4wd systems are selling Lokkas for is it really worth importing and on yourself?
Jimmy.

they quoted me AUD$525 shipped to me here in PHilippines. well, i guess i have to save up a month and a half of salary for this up to this moment, i believe that there's only 2 options for the front locker: lokka and arb. lokkas are waaaaayyy cheaper than arb, so, logical choice for me is lokkas. hehehe
