I raised this ages ago and someone said then that it might be the clutch too. But how can it be always exactly the same difference with positive acceleration when I put the foot down?
If it is timing advance, is the rpm affected throughout the rev range? When idling and the rpm changes automatically, and I'm not talking by much either, the rpm goes down on the gauge and i can hear and feel it too. It's almost like an auto choke in a car, except my decrese is sudden.
I think this one is for the X Files.....

A bit off topic but my tacho sometimes has a bit of a glitch where it will read about 4-500 rpm too high. Usually only for a few seconds though.

Regarding your small idle change. It's not just the air conditioning switching on and off is it?

Regarding your small idle change. It's not just the air conditioning switching on and off is it? Nothing to do with A/C. What happens is that I will be cruising at 60kph in 4th at 2000rpm exactly, or, just under 2000rpm on the same road, depending on the day/temp. Now i've taken it for some work and the bloke did some testing and did some Advance Cam Repairs. Also, "Automatic injection - Cold Start, warm up fault" is indicated on the jobsheet and repaired. So they may have been the problem. Time will tell.

Sounds like a tacho fault. Unless your clutch is slipping which doesnt sound to be the case the revs have to be the same so either the speedo or tacho is telling lies

Sometimes soon after start up when idling, the rpm would change a little and I could feel it too. I believe that the rpm difference would be held throughout the engine/car speed range. I'll be interested now that the bloke did something to the advance to see if it does it again.

My 2cents. I had this a similar prob when i got my Mitsi, one point - when you start the car sometime the revs will be a lil higher then usual untill the vehicle warms up, so in the case of my mitsi it was advancing the timing to heat the engine quicker... basicly an auto choke.
Other problem - when your driving along at say 30km(or at a rev range where you have power), and you put your foot down to get a good speed boost does the rev counter increase quickly(ish) and then the speed slowy increases? I had this problem and it was the clutch.. it was burnt to sh*t and was in a way slipping, when i gave it some juice it would just slip till a point the clutch got so hot that it would fuse itself to the clutchplate (then I got the speed i has asked for) until it had cooled, then it would slip again...
I had asked a few machanic about whether my clutch was slipping they ALL said no. it was not untill i did a real overhaul that we found it had craped itself.... we were very suprised
