A lot of people love the Baja claw but they are pricey and I have heard that they dont hold well on side slopes. Both Maxis and Toyo make a good copy of this tyre at well under half the price

I have to admit that love the claws too, although as stated by geeves, the Maxxis Mudzilla looks the same. Either way they they both would look good and perform well. I have not heared much (wearing) about the Maxxis yet.
Nothing like hearing the roar off bigs tyres off a small or Short Wheel base 4x4, hehe

I have spoken to a lot of people who use them both in other forums and in person, and non of them agreed with the cross slope thing. I think what happened is that its just something which has spread due to a write up that was done on them in a Mud tire camparison by 4x4 Monthly here in Oz. What was really wired about the comparison (Mud tire comparo, cant remember which edition) is that the Claws also scored less than lots of the other tires in the Mud & rock Tests?. Very strange.

On anouther NZ forum I know of 6 people that used these tyres 1 removed them within a month and was very vocal about how dangerous they were the other 5 are very happy. Who knows for sure but is it worth the risk. If you do a lot of flat bogs there probably the best tyres around but if you traverse 30 deg side slopes at the top of 100 meter cliffs can you afford the risk.

Anyway....I have just found out taday that it would be illegal anyway to put 33" tires on MU. we are only allowed 15mm extra overall diameter above standard. So Basically 31" is the largest possible legal tire size for the MU here. Crushing news.
I hear what your saying Allan...and thanks.....I have never been in the situation of having to traverse side slopes. its usually just up or down with slight angles

So thats why I've got so much stuff in the Wizard to make it weight 2.3T in fighting trim, to make the 33x12.5 Mongrels bite!

Hehehe justin, i'm 1950ish roadside weight with all of my recovery gear in, i just couldn't make the 33's bite like the 32's, other wise my next tire would be 33's. As i do a bit of hill work i want to be sure that the little girl is going to stay where i point her, so here come the simex!!! (one day) I would prefer the silverstone equivalent but they are only selling 35's at the moment.
Francesco, the simex do purr nicely on the road, but i am usually heard before i'm seen anyways because of the exhaust and i've got a good sterio so a bit more noise won't be noticed!!, and it means i won't be carring chains around as often which is always a good thing!!

Frank, Why don't you just have 2 set of tyres? Keep your 31" ST and get a set of 32" muddies for playing?
Less work to do for 32 than for 33?
I tried to put on 285/75/16 (32.8") on mine, but had rubbing at full lock against bullbar mount and some on the rear of the front wheel guards when hitting bumps.
So as a set of play tyres they would not have done the job due to rubbing. But I hear 32s (275/75/16 = 32.2") will fit without issues with 2" suspension lift. Have to get rid of the 285s first then will look at 275.
Cheers Chris

He tells the truth, 275/75 x16 below turned in with full weight on the DS wheel: A poofteenth to spare between the Bullbar and the tyre. J
