Pleae Help!
I am no stranger to working on engines, but I cannot get the oil filter out on my new MU.
It is off the housing, but any direction you move it, it is caught. Down & back fouls on the drive shaft, torsion bar & exhaust; up fouls on the exhaust & filter housing.
Any ideas please guys? I don't really want to unbolt the driveshaft if I can help it.

If you remove the load from front suspension the filter should slid out past the TB & exaust . had to do this at the last service. Hope this helps. Dave

It's already jacked up at the front right, so won't work. Problem is I have upgraded TB's (TJM XGS), which are quite thick. Looks like it's driveshaft unbolting time!

not sure on the mu but on the bighorn there is a soft plstic cover on the inner gaurd that you remove to get the filter out.You have to remove the front wheel to get at it and you still have to wedge it past the brake line and its a little fiddly. I can change mine now in under 20 min but thats with 6 years of practice. I think Mr Isuzu forgot that oil filters need changing every now and then

That no workie either, but thanks for the tip.
Got it by removing the front driveshaft bolts and dropping the shaft down.
Will be much easier next time.

What brand of filter came out of it ? The Ryco and the Sakura filters fit much better than the factory Isuzu ones. Same face size etc but slighlty smaller in the body allowing you to move it heaps more. Would need better than double thickness TB to be a problem. 2 minutes tops out and 2 minutes in with a new one. I dont know the technical name for it but the little 3/8 drive three prong claw thingy removing type device I paid 20 bucks for at Supercheap was worth its weight in gold ... or should that be oil ...

Ryco came out, Ryco replacement.
Was no issue getting off the housing, just past the TB. Missed by about 10 mm.

Jay the Ryco is by far the bigggest filter for the MU, the Sakura is quite a bit slimmer. Once I upgraded my exhaust and TBs I couldnt get a Ryco past, but the Sakura no worries.
I can now get a Ryco past JUST, but it took a little massaging of the exhaust pipe with a large bar!! Its still tight but will slide past now!
this didnt crush the pipe at all, just flexed it a little up and towards the chassis rail.
Buggar dropping the drive shaft every service, I would kick that into touch very fast!!

Once I upgraded my exhaust, I also had a similar problem. I am able to change the filter out in about 10 mins. You need a 17mm ring spanner and a 27mm from memory.
Jack up the front via unsing the cross member.
Place a texta mark on the torsion bar nut (27mm) and un screw the bolt. Count the turns cause you need to put it back in the same place.
Once un loaded undo the two bolts holding in the torsion bar at the front. this will allow the bar to be moved to the side. You will not have any problem getting it out.
To remove the filter I use the removal tool that has a peice of seat belt threadded through the end. With a extension bar it is very easy to remove the filter. It hasnt slipped, even if the filter is tight.
the realy simple and smart idea of a 2 ltr plastic milk container cut in half is ideal for catching and funnelling the oil.
Put every thing back the same way you found it. Its realy easy after youve done it once.
I use the Sakura filter.
Anyway, this is just another idea to think about.

I changed the oil filter for the first time last weekend. I ran the Mu up onto ramps and though it was tricky undoing the filter (a Havoline one which is identical to the Ryco I believe) I did not have any trouble getting it out. I think a strap wrench with a long extension will be the story for undoing the filter next time. Yes it's fiddley but you should not have to undo anything to get the thing out.

I found that the only filter wrench that would actually work was one that grabbed the end of the filter. I got a ratcheting one from Super Cheap. It helped I own a long (300mm) socket extension.
