had the intercooler off the truck(2.8) and noticed that the breather on the side of the tappit cover was extended right down by the passenger door?
would this be better to be hooked back up to the intake?
when i go though deep water couldnt water get into the motor?
what have others down with this?
thanks for the help!

If Im imagining the same pipe on a bighorn it goes straight under all the pipes and things and attaches to the intake pipe not quite half way from the air cleaner to the turbo. Its a straight pipe and I cant see any way it could get itself to where you describe. On some Mus it comes round the outside and attaches to the side of the aircleaner

yeah i know thats what it has been like, the bit on the intake pipe has been blocked off and the breather pipe has been moved?
should i re-attach it to were its ment to be?

I wonder who has been fiddling when you weren't looking? Generaly I would say attach it but if your engine has a lot of blow by then it might cause it to run on in some circumstances. How much oil has dripped out of this pipe? Now might be a good time to fit a catch can. while its all apart but not all engines need this. You havnt had turbo problems in the past have you. Only reason I can come up with is that someone has been looking at the oil sitting in the inlet and tryed to fix it. A little oil in the intake is normal and harmless.

I did this to mine as I wanted to reduce the oil in the intercooler.
After a few months the cooler is still nice and clean.
Could not be shagged fitting a catch can.

No problems so far. You would get some suction on it if you were in deep water that cooled the block enough I suppose but no dramas so far.

I wouldnt do it as there is a risk of water getting in. Better to hook it up properly. My engine is nearly 200000km and doesnt blow much oil into the cooler at all

the reason people block the crank case breather pipes ( not just isuzu's) is because of worn piston rings, the oil blow by on the compression stroke causes pressure to build up in the crank case(espesially turbo models) and forces oil and oil mist back to the intake... when the engine combusts this oil the result is smokey exhausts....
the correct manner to go about fixing this issue is to rebore and fit new piston rings? but hey who wants to do that...without spending megabucks.. the easiest and most cost effective way to solve this is to fit an oil catch can.... the breather pipe goes to the catch can where the air is wiped clean by a series of mesh grills. then the air is sucked back to the air intake. the oil condences and runs to the bottom of the tank where a hose fitted at the bottom runs back to the T junction on the lower part of the dipstick(2.8TD).

The 2.8 doesnt have that t piece on the dipstick but the 3.1 does. Otherwise the dipstick and tube is identical. Someones done a swap on yours. I have the same swap sitting on my bench which I will do when the need arises or I have some spare time

If that's the pipe I'm thinking of (crank case breather), when I disconnected it from the intake on my 3.1, there was an instant power increase. I think I will make some mods soon to make it permanant.
