I have a UCS55 2.8L Auto MU which has been cooked. Instead of restoring the 2.8, I am investigating replacing it with the 3.1L 4JG2.
Was wondering if there is any difference between the crankshaft of an auto and manual. The reason I ask is that I will probably end up getting the 3.1 out of a Jackaroo which are predominantly manuals - My MU is an auto.
Also any advice, suggestions or comments on this proposal?
Thanks
Simon

Richard converted a auto to manual a while ago without any issues but that was 2.8 to 2.8. A few people have fitted the 3.1 onto 2.8 gearboxes without issues in this area so it should be ok but no promises.

Just while we are on the subject, whats a 4JG2 worth? I'm looking at putting a VP commodore 3.8V6 in mine, so will have one for sale if I do. It will be complete from fan to transfer case (I'll swap the Isuzu 5-sp out for a Hilux one so I can do a dual t/c later on). Are there any parts worth selling separate? Like the alternator etc... or is it better to keep the whole thing complete? I'd rather sell it in one hit complete, but need to look at the economic viability of the project, as the solid axle swap has made a bit of a dent in my finances lately Cheers Steve

re cost of a 4jg2 contact www4x4isuzu.com and ask for a price and sell yours about half to two thirds of that depending on condition. Comadoor v6 is a common swap and I belive there are kits around. Most common way is use the v6 and matched auto and fit the hilux transfer case to this. Apparantly its simpler to do this way also much easier to find an auto comadoor. If you get an eccotech model you also need the computer and ignition lock and key or someone who can trick the anti theft but they go very well
