hi,
Im wondering if the 2.8 motor will fit into a 97 wizard ( blown 3.1) it has the auto box. So i want to slap my 2.8 4JB1 (off an auto) into the wizard, are they the same auto box? I know the 3.1 manual box bolts up to my motor. thanks in advance!

I know someone in Botswana who did this and had huge problems getting the auto to change properly. It always acted like it was in kick down only changeing at the redline even at light throttle. Dont know what the problem was or if he ever fixed it but Im guessing you need to do some mucking round with the ecu. Otherwise no problem. There is a company in England replaceing the later 3.0 engines with 2.8s

whats wrong with yours? If the chrome bores are ok then rings and bearings dont cost much more than a petrol motor but if the bores are damaged they are pricy also the crank is nitride hardened If this is damaged it has to be replaced. Ive seen a poorly maintained 2.8 that needed over 7000 spent on it at under 150000km. That truck now runs a comadoor v6 for obvious reasons. Ive seen very good engines with well over 400000km.

theres nothing wrong with my motor, i have a 3 door mu which the auto died in and am converting to manual (hassles) then i found a wizard with a blown motor so i thought i would put my 2.8 into the wizard and drive that while/if i rebiult the 3.1 the put the 3.1 back in.
then i would have the convienience of 5 doors and a later model . options, options hmmm

If its only short term it will be ok but still a lot of work.If it changes funny it wont matter. You might get luck and have everything work ok.I couldnt find a reason for the problems that were had in Botswana All the connections seem the same in the book. Ive been toying with a similar idea if a blown mu or wizard comes along at the right price. Its time my bighorn had a facelift. But would like to stay manual
