I have read some of the past forum and hope that this forum will help mine and my wifes sanity We have a Isuzu Wizard 98 with 4JX1 3.0 Turbo Diesel which has done 82,000Kms. A week ago my wife after having just refueled drove the car and it just stopped while driving, she was able to restart the car immediatly. This happened a few times (mainly when under idle at a stop) but would restart. I tested the car when she got home and it started up first time and ran for 15 minutes under idle and then just stopped. I restarted it and it did it again after a few minutes We have taken to dealership who are agents for Holden/Isuzu and who have previosly done the Injector Recall about a year ago and also replaced the Oil Sensor and Wiring Hareness (oil rail pressure sensor leaking into injector wiring harness) The Tech 2 computer is not logging a fault code in the ECU (vehicle been driven several times to find fault but nothing showing up). The following has been done so far -change oil (Mobile 1 5w 30), filters, replace fuel filter, bypass filter - checked low and high pressure oil supply to injector rail - OK - disabled burglar alarm system (aftermarket) - checked fuel lines for air leaks Only option appears to be the "try" things until fault found. Maybe only option but very expensive and timely I am hoping someone out there either knows of this fault or can help us regain our sanity l

Try unpluging all the conectors on the computer and sensors areconecting. This will clean them. If this doesnt work then do not restart the car next time and have it towed to the dealer The fault codes are reset when the engine is restarted. My father in law had a similar problem in a disco and the dealer couldnt fix it. He ended up with a retired auto sparky with time on his hands looking at it. He put meters on everything and was able to work out that all the sensors were correct therefore the fault was the computer. He was going to england for a holiday so bought a new computer there and the differance in price almost paid for the holiday. the UK forum has a lot about these engines so worth a look I think they have more of them than we do www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=17&sid=080f5c6e6705a97b6c2a332537cfcca4

Thanks for response
They have but in a doner ECU computer and still same intermittent problem
Next going to look again over fuel line for leaks
Could it be air issues any where else?

More likly electronic but were all guessing. Its a problem when your car engine is more inteligent than a university

Does this engine have the same fuel shut off solenoid on the injector pump assembly as the 4jb1? Could be as simple as a loose connection down there that plays up at idle (more vibrations?).

Thanks to the responses
After exhausting all the mechanical options the mechanics moved onto the electrical and it ended up being a faulty ECU unit . So far so good, fingers crossed
Do we know if the Turbo on the 4JX1 is or has been a problem

The turbo on the 4jx1 is ok Only the 4jg2 caused problems. A caution on this though if the injector orings leaked contaminating the oil then the turbo is often the first sign of grief followed soon after by the bearings then the bores then the wallet. I thought they tried an ecu earlier with no luck

Yea they did and it didnt work initially then it did, been OK since
Has the latest injector recall eliminated this o-ring issue ie has it worked with no issues since
Apart from these issues is the 4JX1 a motor to stay with?

I belive so but there seems to still be some concerns on the uk trooper site. Maybe the first batch of orings were still faulty. In the UK there is a company installing brand new 4jb1 engines as a replacment to the 4jx1. In therory the 4jx1 should be a good engine Time will tell

Hi
What happened in the UK is they have had 2 service notifications for the injectors. The 1st just replaced the O-rings and the 2nd replaced both the O-rings and the sleeves for the injectors.
They call them service notifications and not recalls (don’t panic the natives) and they were/are carried out as part of the vehicles normal service.
Cheers Craig
