Cleaned my filter and re-oiled it yesterday after 20K since install, and apart from it looking black when I pulled it out the power increase after cleaning was actually noticable. I never noticed on initial install cause I guess the paper one was not that shagged. How often do people clean their filters on average? I realised it depends on how much offroad you do and how dry & dusty it is, but I'm thinking I should maybe do it every 10K now. J

I'm not very particular about my clean intervals. I go for a visual inspection. Any dust that hit's the oil gives the black look so I use that as an indicator. It can also be interesting to have a look in the wash out container after washing. Often there is quite a bit of grit suspended in the turps. Gives one a good feeling about cleaning it.

I havnt had mine in long enough to need to clean it yet but Im going to clean the outer sleeve at every service.Too often probably but then I wont forget to do it.The inner sleve should hardly ever need doing then The snorkle certainly sucks more dirt in

My unifilter was only $92 NZ Quite cheap considering the cheapest papers are $30 and not all paper filters are created equal

Sounds like the unifilter is the way to go. I know I have read threads about them before but I cant find them. Do they fit in the standard air box in the 3.1 MU and are they readily available in OZ ?

Uni filter are made in the land of Aus so I hope you can get them easily. Do a google search for unifilter or finer filter and you will get there main site. On there is a list of a large no of cars and a list of measurements available and there recomended retail price so you should be able to find the right one

Kn filters are available as a cartage fiting for the standard airbox but they cost more than unifilter. The choise is yours at the end of the day there is not much differance in performance

According to the UNIfilter web site this is the following recommendation for: HOLDEN RODEO DIESEL 2.5L 4JA1 & 2.8L 4JBI TURBO 88/02 Unifilter Part# UCC146 160S Ryco Part # HDA5767 Genuine Part # 89 43 349 060 You can check it up on: www.unifilter.com.au/make.asp?make=HOLDENJust out of interest the UNIfilter Part # for the 4JG2 is UC130 200S
