This topic has probably been covered a few times but I'm aiming more at people with 91 onwards Bighorns with the 3.1TD engine (4jg2). Since playing with the air intake and intercooler on Dads Irmsher, he's getting just under 700km per fill. How does this compare with a stock setup?
Cheers

There good figures. I always thought of the 3.1 bighorn as a little greedy but it is bigger than the earlier model and the 4jg2 has much better power at low revs than the 4jb1 that like to rev (by diesel standards)

Ive had my 2.8 down to those figures by drowning the paper air filter. Also it was struggling to get up hills in third gear that it normaly cruises in forth. When paper gets wet the fibers mat differantly and dont breath as well. Have uni filter now so always as good as new paper element and snorkle so air cleaner dosnt get wet so often.

i get 500-600km on a fill up, i have 3.1 with autobox, and safari snorkel (makes lots of difference to performance and consumtion) i dont drive hearvy (much of the time) but do 110km/h on motorway.
700km on a tank, i would like very much

700k per tank?? Here in town, mainly 400-500k per tank. So, lots of short trips of <10kms and 4.56s = not the best mileage.

I have fitted a 3.1 4jg2 to my 4x4 pickup, used to get 8 km/l. Removed mechanical viscous fan and fitted electrical fan. I now do 10 km/l. Removing the fan also improved performance remarkably.

12l/100km with a roofrack, mainly town driving in Cape town. Do you guys have bad diesel or bad traffic jams? I thought I was bad. used to have a 2.8l engine in the Bighorn, got 10.3 l/100km average

12l/100km is very close to 8.3km/l so your figures are very close to ours. Round town the roof rack wont make much difference but on the highway it can make a big difference

That's the sort of mileage I'm getting too. I thought it was a bit too much but maybe it's not. Anyway, 3rd gear off boost feels like crap. Not smooth acceleration, feels like dirty injectors which I think I'll replace before x-mas, with timing belt and ..... lots to do!
My record before the bullbar when I first got the MU was 715km without the light coming on.
