hi all. just enquiring about the egr pipe and why some of you have dissconected it? What are the benefits of this and how is it done? I own a 2.8td 99 rodeo, can do this on my model? thanks in advance Dan

Yes you can remove it on this model but check your local rules on anti polution devices first. Its job is to lower engine combustion temperatures reducing the amount of nitros oxide produced. At the same time it robs you of some power and ecconomy and can cause carboning up of the inlet etc.

And whist you are there blank off the 2 vavle thingys on the side of the inlet manifold if your motor has them, doing both of these things makes your truck go alot better.

so where exactly is the egr pipe situated in the engine?

If you look towards the back of the exhaust manifold you will see a pipe that goes around the back of the motor to just below the inletmanifold where it goes into the two egr valves, use 4mm or thicker plate to blank them off and use stainless steel bolts as they will not rust into your manifold if you ever have to undo them again.

This is my 4JG2 with its EGR's which have been blocked so you can see where they would be on Dani's motor.

To post pics you need to host them on a web site. Dani's above is physically located at: www.4x4web.com.au/skips4x4/my4wds/rodeo/0092.jpgYou may have some web space with your internet account that you could use, or you can post them to a number of photo hosting websites, www.photobucket.com is one, but don't do this with photos that are important for your own copyright. Then once you have the picture on an internet web server, you link to it in your post with IMG tags that use square brackets [ ], or use the full featured "REPLY" function and there should be a button to help. Now to make my post contain some on-topic content... BigD - if your engine has EGRs, then there's two valves on the inlet manifold as per Justin's photo, and this has a pipe connected that goes around/over the back of the engine and connects to the exhaust manifold. If you can't find this brassy coloured pipe, then you may not have EGRs, as per Dani4Jb1T's picture of the 1999 Rodeo engine. Cheers! Graham

hi Graham, i've checked my engine and i do have EGR'S, but i think the owner of the car before me has allready blocked it off. the pipe you are talking about has been crimped and welded shut. Is this the best way to block them off? regards Dan

Hi i have some questions too if the valves get blocked on the 3.1D can this pressurize the motor or is this another valve that can do this if so where on the motor is it,, my motor runs well no smoke etc but if i take off the oil filler cap or don't push the dipstick fully home will get oil pushed out . Also if i take these valves out what about the unit that the rubber hoses go to, do you block these too ?and are there any censers to disconnect thanks for the info

Crank case breather is a rubber pipe that runs from the back of the tappet cover along between the cover and the inlet manifold and into the intake pipe at the front of the motor. This is controled by a flap valve in the rear of the tappet cover which in your case might be blocked and about half way along this pipe there is anouther valve teed in from the inlet manifold This is an over presure relef from the turbo. If your engine is the earlier one there is no need to worry about the vaccume lines If its the later engine with electronic control I dont know
