Hi im in nz so not much help to you im not sure that some ot the turbos on 3.1 are rebuildable but i gather from earlier posts that some replacements are.i did a search and there appears to be a few turbo specialists in perth who may be able to help you. Im picking by your post that you have noticed a sudden change in the sound of your turbo. A little oil in the intake pipes on isuzus is pretty normal it comes in from the engine breather although i think this was remidied a lot on the 3.1 engine. hopefully some locals will be able to help you more on best service agents there good luck Les

Hi Steds.Oil in intake pipes is a standard fitting on Isuzu motors.Comes from the breather hose on top of motor.I replaced a turbo because of whining nose but the noise stayed.Coming from the tired power steering pump.So be sure it is the turbo before laying out the bucks. Regards,Harry.

hey i wouldnt be paying $550 2nd hand for a isuzu turbo, they are a non reapirable turbo, they had a problem with the heatshield material being to thin causing the heatshield to lift and catch the turbine wheel.
Chances are the 2nd hand one u get will be on its way aswell they are shockers.
If i was you and you were goin to keep the car buy new they fit the Vi95 to them which is non ball bearing turbo and can be overhauled much better turbo. i think from memory they are $850nz

i'm looking for a turbo for mine now too, just this afternoon while i was on a round about the oil pressure droped, think it all went over to the left side of the engine, terrible tilt with no swaybar attached, anyway no oil going to the turbo and i heard the bearings grab. now when i reach boost i can hear them rattle or whistle.
anyway if new is going to be more cost effictive in the long run i'd like to know more. i'm in queensland cheers

hey can supply brand new IHI vi95 replacements for $920nz + freight but have a mate who works at DHL for reckons he can send to aussie overnite to your door for $100 bucks. The Vi95 is a non ball bearing replacement to replace the factory RHF5 have much better quality materials in them and dont give any problems, these turbos can also be overhauled not like the factory ones which are a throw away item
let me know if your interested
cheers

For what you will pay for a 2nd hand replacement turbo its not worth it because 90% of them are stuffed, if you take the exhaust housing off you will see what i mean he heatshield material starts to lift and destroys the turbine wheel, just some advice we have a box of about 30 siting one the floor at work all with the same problem, and i know wreckers want good money for them people r getting riped of because they are not worth $550 bucks when u can get a new one for $920 not worth the hassle of having to take the turbo off twice when it could be done right the first time

3.1 Turbo's are shockers. Heat shield materials are too thin and when they let go you're up for a new one cause they aren't rebuildable. Dont buy a second hand one of a 3.1. The 2.8's turbo is rebuildable so I purchased one second hand - $300 from Truck Spares, Quarintine Rd, Nelson NZ. No noticeable difference fitted to the 3.1

The earlier 2.8 models depending on the model can be overhauled they had the non bb tubo on them but they had a smaller exhaust housing on them compared to the VI95

If someone can post the specs I will see what I can line up here in Oz. A mate imports turbos for a range of engines and has trade accounts with local suppliers too. He has already suggested I put a bigger turbo on the MU. It could be that if a turbo off something else more common is similar could save some $$.

Its straight forward Take the pipes off take the turbo off the manifold and put back together. I hope you drink Tui as all the bolts are placed in true Isuzu fashion. ie you get to the top bolts from underneath and the bottom bolts from the left hand side of the motor. I wouldnt tackle it myself but also in my case I would have to ask is it worth spendin 1000 + labour on a new turbo in a car worth 2000 tops
