Has anyone had their MU or Bighorn dyno'd? We're about to dyno dad's 3.1 Bighorn after the mods and it would be good to have something to compare to.
Thanks

I am interested in what mods you have made. I have K&N air filter and 2.5 in exhaust and want more power.....

Front mounted intercooler, modified intake plenum, new air intake system, boost control. Nothing major but would like to see the gains if any.

Dont knoew how well this will help but after a tune up at Brisbane Dyno Tiune in the Gabba, it ran something like 110HP at the wheels. The guys said that was pretty good for an Isuzu (they do heaps of Rodeos).
But as we all know, each Dyno and operator are different and a true reading has to be done on the same Dyno for comparison.
Mine has had a Stage 1 boost Controller (10-11 PSI Max at the intercooler not the turbo) but the intercooler has only been fitted, there is no hole for the bonnet scoop and then the fuel rate adjusted and a restrictive 2.5" exhaust.
Goes quite well and really pulls harder and more through the whole rev range than when it was stock.
Hope that helps! Oh heaps of torque but dont remember the figues (didnt get the printout) But the profiles are stored on their computer!!!

Thanks for that, excellent info. We'd be pretty happy with 110kw. We've been playing around with the idea of a turbo upgrade but really want to retain low down torque. Thanks again for that figure.

Hi Matt, a question as well, was wandering where you got your intercooler from? as Iam thinking of putting one on as well. I've been told the scoop off the GU Nissan Patrol is about $120 to $140 and is a easy one to do, may be of some help. Cheers Bruce

Hi Dave, have checked out the latest RA Rodeo and they are a front mount cooler. It seeems that the Nissan scoop is just one of those situations that one of the big manufacturers have let us loose on, Iam still do research on this so if there is more info regarding this please let me know. Cheeers Bruce.

Bruce the model Rodeo must be the previous it has a top mount intercooler had a good look at one on the job site last week it was a 3.0 Lt TD. Or try the wreckers some Jackaroo's had intercoolers. Got a price complet plumbing, scoop & intercooler $400.00 from a wrecker ex Jackaroo. Good luck.

Bruce, the UBS 69 (last Jackaroo) scoop and intercooler plus all brackets etc came from a Truckbits in Onehunger in NZ cost about $400ish.
The it is the same as you would get if you went to the wreakers here and got it all off a Jackaroo. The scoop hasnt been cut into the bonnet yet, still waiting for the courage to take to it with a nibbler.
Fracesco, the full job for Stage one boost control and then adjust timing and pump with a dyno tune after was about $400ish too. well worth the money, it simply lept off afterwards. I think most was just ensuring it was getting the full fuel at boost and getting full boost too! I dont think the timing was out etc.
The guys knew what they were doing and pretty professional, you should see the spread of cars they have in the shop, straight off a drift line up in Japan!!
ps the current RA Rodeo doesnt have the scoop but the very last of the ISUZU Rodeos had the scoop (2003), very much the same scoop as the Jackaroo!

I went and visited the guy who did Matts Dyno. He has kindly given me printouts of results of 2 Rodeos with 4JB1-T ......results look impressive. I will scan them and post them as soon as I can get my hands on a scanner....mine has died.

Ok here it is. The dyno results are for 2.8 Mu '92' with 2.5 exhaust off turbo, and snorkle. The Boost is set for 11 pounds psi. The boost can be set higher, but he said this is a safe and stable level with out it going bang. An intercooler perhaps would be the next introduction to safely increase the boost. This definently feels like a different car I'm driving.

Those are amazing improvement figures Francesco. I have a snorkle on mine and am about to do the 2.5" ex turbo. What I wonder is how much the turbo boost is increased, from standard, to add to the power increase.
I have heard standard boost for the 4JB1 is 10lbs - can anyone confirm this? Interesting the tuning company said the boost to 11 lbs was safe - it must be contributing alot as that's one humungous power increase you have there. Mike.

There are quite a few positive reports for fitting 2.5" from the turbo. Do you discard the quick warm up system when you got to 2.5" from the turbo?
It has little value as a warm up device (for me), but another recent post suggests that it DOES act as an exhaust brake when in 4LO. I'm going to check that out on mine. I'm tempted to go 2.5" but also really apprecitate the excellent engine braking I have.
