I am sick of loosing fan blades during water crossings / playing in the mud and am looking to remove the fan blades and installing an electric unit so I can switch off when crossing water etc etc..
Has anyone done this already ?
Pros ? Cons?

I know of 2 fans you murdered Was there more??? There was discusion on this a while ago and aparently its easy enough. Hardest part is fitting a thermostat in the bottom of the radiator if you bother. Use the largest fan you can fit and second hand oem fans are more reliable than super cheap ones. At picapart they will be cheaper as well.

My lada uses 2 fans bought from the wreckers for $10 each (they are of toyota camry).Termo switch is no problem at all.I habe bought Craig & Davis thermo switch kit at repco for $ 45.It is mounted in to top radiator hose and it is adjustable( you can adjust switching temperature).By water crossing you don't need manual switch coz water will cool radiator and engine down and thermo switch will turn fan off automaticaly. This modification workes on my lada perfectly.On my mu I don't need this mod coz mu is not my off road wehicle.

Guys,
i to am thinking of fitting my electric fans (those of you who remember, i'm the guy who all the parts sit in the garage for 12 months before i get round to fitting them!) and now i've seen diesel here in uk for 106.9p/L its time to put my backside into gear and fit it to save some cash at the pumps.
i plan on buying an ally housing with a screw in thermo switch for them, as i dont like the bulb type switches.
anyways, the guidance i need is on the sender, as there are 3 listed, (87-82, 95-90, 100-95 degrees celcius) but i am not sure of what temperature range the car runs at. (its 1994 model 3.1TD Bighorn here in UK)
how you guys can be the saviours you always are. keep up the good work

From memory the thermostat is 87 so I would be fitting either the 82/87 or 90/95. Generaly the sender for the fan is fitted to the bottom of the radiator so sees a lower temperature that the thermostat. If fitted this way use the 82/87 if fitted to the top tank or thermostat housing use the 90/95
