...should I get to replace the soon to expire one in my '93 Bighorn? Ok - I admit my wagon has Honda and Horizon badges on it, please don't hold that against me! Having read some old posts I'm keen to try something "different" (ie, modified) rather than shelling out for a straight replacement. Any thoughts and experiences would be appreciated. Cheers Vince

Is this thread still open?
I was thinking about this too... There was some posts about a new better replacement for the 2.8L turbo.
I'm thinking of running 14-15psi. Is there anything stopping someone putting like ... a skyline turbo on? Or is that just stupid?
The standard turbo looks a bit small. Will it or the maginally better replacement i mentioned handle 14-15psi well?

tweeking the waste gate will get 14 - 15 psi. Tweeking the boost controler on the inlet manifold will get more. The turbo on the 2.8 is small but spins at 150000rpm A bigger turbo will boost more at high revs but loose boost down low where you realy need it off road. Our turbo is shared with Subaru WRX if you need to tell your friends its there for performance

Does anyone know what to do to the overboost valve on the inlet manifold to get it to allow boost of above 15PSI?
I want to run 16-18 one my interooled 2.8

A Suby WRX ay? ... Will have to tell people that when they say the turbo looks small.
So even for running 14+ psi, the IHI VI95 is the best option (retaining low down boost for off-road & good on-road)?
Apart from being non-bb and having better materials over my VI87, is the VI95 any larger or will it have any effect on the actual performance?
Should I even ask about a Garret (or similar) alternative?

Has nobody ever but anything but a stock replacement turbo in their Isuzu? I've become quite attached to my whine - but those bombs are being dropped from higher up now (the wind-down whistle is getting longer) Looks like a VI95 then, possibly with a modded exhaust housing (thanks Powertruck)

Superturbocompund has run a few different turbos. I think he liked the RB20 /25 combo turbo.

I take it no one knows much about the Over Boost Valve?

Its somthing someone should look at. No info anywhere about it but I know of a Mu up north that showed up a few boy racers at a quarter mile meet. He wab boosting 17psi and hitting 87mph at the quarter mile From memory he was getting 14 sec times. Not dad for a near 2 ton diesel I also worry about the fact that this breaths into the crankcase vent hose.If theres a large flow then this could pressureise the sump.

If that 1/4 mile time is accurate, then it's a very quick-off-the-mark MU - I used to have a daihatsu applause and on the quater mile it would reach about 135kph (~85mph) but it took 16.5 seconds. And that was only a little quicker than a VN Commodore auto.
14 seconds is a quick car.

I will have to check it out. I have already tested the setup at 16PSI and it sits there no worries.
For a MU to run a 14 sec pass it would need 300+ HP and would have a terminal of about 100mph
87Mph is about a 17 second pass this in itself would require 200+ Hp
This is based on 1800Kg's and near optimal conditions.

The speed is right but could be wrong on the time. This was posted here about 3 or 4 years ago so could take a bit of searching to check I dont know what else had been done but turbo lag was a problem in normal driving

It would be good to know what had done to the engine becuase that is a truckload of power from one of these engines.

Cant find it sorry. It was possibly posted on the forum before the forum was moved to proboards. The old forum ceased to exist without warning when its webmaster went bust so no chance of getting it back. All I can remember was that he lived in Hamilton. Maybe hes still here or someone up that way knows more alan
