Someone help please. I got a top mount intercooler, however, after following many members' advice, I have been unable to rotate the inlet housing on my turbo. Has anyone had this problem ? Any solutions? I have heard that the turbos on th later models of this engine cannot be rotated - is there a way to get around this and mount the intercooler? HELP !!

There is a silicone sealant holding it in place. This needs to be broken and then re-applied when in new position. I'm having my new turbo's compressor cover rotated on thursday at ALLTECH Diesel & Turbocharger.

Look at the model of the turbo if it's a IHI RHB5 it can be rotated

When you say you cannot rotate it have you loosened the retaining bolts?
With them loose does it not turn?
I gave mine a gentle tap to break it away from the sealent before rotating and retentioning.

When I just got the intercooler at the scrap yard, a mechanic down there attempted to fit it for me, I told him he'd have to rotate the turbo inlet housing. Well, when he removed the housing and rotated it, the bolt holes did not line back up. I just made him replace the housing. I am going to have a go at it over the weekend with the help of one of my friends (maybe the mechanic at the scrap yard just didn't have enough patience or something). I'll also heck the model of the turbo and let you guys know. Will keep you all posted. Thanks.

The model of my turbo is RHF5. I have heard that this model cannot be rotated - is this true? Any suggestions? Does anyone know of someone who has fitted a top mount intercooler to the RHF5 turbo??

Yep I have done it. The RHF5 are a ball bearing turbo. Unservicable. You need to redrill and tap the holes to rotate the housing. Also the wastegate will need to be repositioned.

Looks nice and should work well. You might want to make some support brackets for the hose to stop it moveing to much which could break it over time.
