After a complete JB1T rebuild (expensive I know)
Teh mechanice rings up & says:
"we are just trying ot get some more performance out of it,a swe have been told they are meant to be like $hit off a shovel..."
huh? I mean does'nt 110HP + 1.8 tonnes give you a 0-100 in like 14 seconds.
So... I am looking for a Sydney owner that I can pay an hourly rate so the mechanice can see a STANDARD engine bay in case some of the hoses have been routed incorreclty over the last 15 years.
please let me know if you can help or have any timed performace statistics.
Regards,
Bob Ryder.

First it will never be a race car or if it is it probably wont last long. There was a mu in Hamilton that had the boost increased to 18psi and mixture to match that ran a standing 1/4 with a finish speed of 86mph but I belive it wasnt freindly to drive in heavy traffic. If the actual engine is in good nic then the best mods are free flow exhaust 2.5 or 3 inch, oiled foam or cotton air cleaner , snorkle and remove the emmisions gear if this allowed where you are. Horsepower is measured roughly as torque x revs and as diesels dont rev they never apear to have high horsepower on paper but because of there good torque characteristics they still perform nearly as well as a petrol engine with twice the horspower.

Hi Bob,
You've already gotten some useful advice, but if you need to look into the engine bay of another 3.1TD MU, mine might be available.
Where abouts in Sydney are you? I'm in the Hills/Parramatta area.
Cheers, Graham.

Thanks Graham.
I got te MU back (Taren Point BTW), & it feels nice & tight.
Something to do with putting the piston rings the right way around this time!!!
Anyway, I think I will put on 2 thousand K's then look into more fuuel delivery / air filter.
If we can still compare, I am central to mascot area & can meetup pretty much anywhere.
Thank you again.
