I have a 1995 Bighorn 3.1TD with a sad engine. I have removed head and cylinder liners need to be replaced. Can the engine be removed without taking out the auto trans and there is little clearance between the sump and the front diff, or do I lower the diff? Also the American manual I have does not cover the EFI injector pump. Is the timing set up the same at TDC and 0.5mm lift.

I would split the motor and auto before removeing the engine. The motor should lift straight up with little problem. Do support the front of the auto though. If you do need to drop the diff its only 4 bolts but suport this on a jack and then lower gentaly. If you read the book it would see the front suspension off first but this wont be nessecsary unles you want to take the diff right out. It can hang on the cvs

You'll need to remove the small steel sump[About 20 6mm bolts from memory] and the oil strainer/pickup.The transmission spigot won't clear the back of the motor until the motor is far enough forward but that won't happen until the sump is over the axle housing which won't happen because the top of the trans housing jams against the underside of the body. Not a problem with a 2" body lift though.Hope that didn't confuse you too much! regards,Harry.
