Hi all, Great to see the site is still as great as ever as i havn't had time to look for ages.
Any ways, i'm looking at putting a remote oil filter on my 2.8 mu as now that i have an intercooler on i can't change the oil filter without removing the intercooler!!, so am just wondering if anyone here has played with remote filter set-ups before and if there is a maximum length the lines can be before causing problems (which is the last thing i want). I'm thinking about along the chassis rail somewhere with a nice and meaty 3mm steel box around it for protecton.
Any thoughs or advice greatly apperciated,
Thanks john.

hi mumad how is it you cant remove the filter without removing the I/C?. I have a 2.8 turbo/intercooled as well. cant you access it through the side by removing the rubber cover in the wheel arch? or from underneath the vehicle?. anyway you should be fine in the way of relocating it you just need to buy a oil bypass filter head similar to the fuel filter head. length of hose shouldn't matter but you can always use 1/2" hose instead of 9/16th hose if your worried? probably overkill though. regards muvit

Changing filter should be simpel enough. Take front wheel off and then the rubber cover on the inner gaurd. Its a fiddle the first few times then gets easier each time after that

I also have an intercooled 2.8 and can change my filter from the top. Its a bit of a squeeze but possible. I do have to unbolt and move slightly the engine warm up device (3 small bolts). If you find any good remote filter parts and part numbers etc please post them as I'd do something similar if I knew the parts were available.

I forgot to mention that i have a 3" exhaust in the way so the filter cannot come out the side or bottom as everything is just a little tight even with a 40mm body lift. I have all of the remote filter parts, have to alter the one to go onto the motor as i couldn't get one with a thread to match. My only concern is making the hoses too long and over working the pump or something dumb like that. Am thinking that the hoses will be about a meter long, so if any one could tell me if this is too long then that would be great. Thanks guys.

If you mount the filter down low you should be ok. Most remote filter setups have the filter at the top of the engine and work ok. Biggest things to watch are keeping the filter the right way up unlike what it is now and arrangeing the hoses so they dont drain onto your face at each oil change and keeping everything away from the exhaust

Thanks geeves, sometimes its a pain having the big exhaust, but the benifits out weigh the hassels!!. I'll give it a go, keeping the hoses as short as possible and have the filter pointing down, which should make changes alot easyer. Am removing my air con and putting the alternator up top so i may look at putting the filter where the alternator was but i think i will still have access issuses!! Thanks guys, will let you know how it all goes.

I too am looking at one of these remote kits, can anyone tell me the details of the 2.8 filter (thread and pitch)
Would be much cleaner than taking the filter off to measure :-p .
Andy.

I'm getting confused with all the different sizes of these kits... I have been looking through sites, searching for a kit that states the M26x1.5 thread with no luck. This Perma-Cool kit found here: perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page27.htmlSays that it fits 98% of all automotive applications, and is designed for a Fram PH 8A filter. Would this fit to the MU's engine? And would the filter suggested be large enough? Thanks for any help, Andy.

thats a filter for a petrol engine so no good. Might be worth haveing a look at a few isuzu trucks. Some of them had the 4jb1 engine and remote filters. If you find the right one get the chassis no and visit Mr holden

If anyone finds a kit PLEASE post it on the forum as ALLOT of us would like to get it.
Wondering if we could get someone to make/build a set number of PRE paid kits for the Ryco Z402 filter ?
If anyone has the ability or know of someone please pass this info on, they could make some easy money.
