Hi all, Just wondering if anyone is running TJMs XGS 2000 shocks (front and back) on a MU. I spoke to TJM and they are unsure if they will fit in without "hitting/rubbing the control arm" for the front and the back should be OK. They can fit them on Rodeo and thus the question? Would like to confirm it before the Mu goes into the TJM shop.
Thanks Chris

Why should they touch? I've got Rancho 9000's without any troubles.

Thanks Roger, I guess that the TJM fella was unsure as he has not done any MUs (like most places). But I nagged him enough and thus he pulled his finger out and did more research on it. Can get all 4 XGS 2000 shocks on the Mu, Jackaroo/Prado XGS2000 for the front and Land cruiser 80 series for the back, this should give me cushioning,…..hehe
Cheers

OK this is what I have been quoted, All the Shocks are XGS 2000 and they are $140 each Have been told that it’s a jackeroo/Pajero front shocks and Land cruiser 80 series rear (Not sure but it also be 60 series, I forgot which one to be honest)
TJM XGS Jackeroo (5+1) leaf set $540 TJM XGS Torsion bars are about $450 (set of 2) Labor?
I found that most places in "Brisbane" are not too sure/have no idea about lifting the MU , except for Redlands 4WD Centre, a fellow there called Rod knows everything about them (do and don'ts) and was/is extremely helpful, they are actually going through and looking at 3" lifts designed only for the MU,.....can't wait ;D ;D ;D,...still a few week off yet.

Hi Pissy ;D ;D ;D I have been looking into suspension options for the Mu in Brisbane, for a while now. So many options and so many people telling me i have no options . But your info from TJM was perfect, Ive been real interested in fitting their suspension. Can i ask which store you went to? That info about red lands 4x4 sounds very enticing, but still a few weeks of hey? They wouldn't have given you a ball park on price for the lift would they? Looking to get mine done within the next few weeks. So what ever you end up doing, if its before then a post on the results would be sweet. Nice one mate

Jimmy, I would call Redlands 4WD centre and talk to Rod (07)3823 3990 (let him know that “CHRIS” forwarded you on to him). They can do the MU with Dobinson springs or TJM springs as well as EFS gear, Rancho and XGS 2000 Shocks and honestly sound like the only ones who know what they talking about concerning MUs. They can fit TJM stuff for the price as the actual TJM store.
The TJM shop I went to was in Enoggera Unit 1, 108 Pickering Street ENOGGERA 4051 Ph: (07) 3855-4444 (Ask for jeff and again let him know that I forward you onto him, he may not remember me, If you are after a quote for a 94 MU its quote number 55 in his quote book but its under my name).
The Only thing that I am a little confused about is the what is the best leaf springs configuration to use,…..Most 4WD places recommend a 3+1 leaf set while some/or most the people on this forum who have done lifts have got 5+1 leafs sets. I am wondering how much stiffer would the 5+1 be over the 3+1.
In regards to the 3” lifts, that is still a while off as they need to get engineers to look and modify and then to see if QLD transport will approve the Modification. I will let you know ASAP when I do. (keep an eye on updates in this tread)

Chris, Nice one mate, thanks for all the help, will give Rod a call prolly next week some time and drop your name, it will be nice to talk to somebody who knows what their on about with the Mu for a change , coz i really gotta do something my rear shocks at the moment look like they should be holding up a boot lid, not under the back of a 4x4. Thanks again Jimmy

The leaves on the 5 spring packs are thinner so stiffness doesnt go up that much In fact my bighorn rides smoother now on a 5 leaf pack than it did on the original 15 year old 3 leaf pack.It still doesnt drop as much with a load in the back though. Springs can seem more of a black art than a science

Roger, How much lift do you get for your $1200?? And where are you having it done? Cheers. The jobs done in Melbourne. 4wd Heaven in Thomastown (formerly in Kalkallo) I went 2 inches, the rear leafs are made in Malaysia and are badged by everyone as their own (except OME as they're aussie built, I'm told). Rockcrawler uses these Malasian ones as well- check out their site http://www. ? sorry, don't know Auto alliance in Aus is the rockcrawler distributor. My springs were sourced from Offroad Australia 4x4 Suspensions www.offroad4x4.com.au/ They were $400 for both and are 5+1 progressive leafs with all the jazz they say is good- scragged, load tested etc Cheers
