Gday, I own a 98 Wizard with the 4JX1 engine and am interested in the K+N or BMC aftermarket filters that claim noticable power increases.
I was wondering if anyone has tried these filters and what did they think of them.
cheers Roscoe

On that engine the computer will compensate so dont expect a change. It will still outlast the paper one though so could be worth doing

If you clean and look after the filter it will last for ages, i have one now and i don't think it made that much difference but the oil deffinatly catches the dust.

Yes I just did my finer filter after 25000km (so much for promising myself I would do it every oil change)Its the 2 layer foam. The inner layer was still perfectly clean but the outer had almost 2mm crud on the outside. No difference in performance was noted. The worst part was scoping all the dry gorse and stinging nettle out of the air box. Definatly a disadvantage of snorkles. K&N filters are in common use here and recieve good writups as do some other cotton gause types ie Simota. Stay away from the cheap ones though They can break up. Ive heard a story about one on a turbo Nissan Patrol that lost the end cap. No damage done to the engine but the cap sealed off the intake suddenly while the engine was at full noise. The bang followed by total silence was heard 100 meters away. I belive the BMC filters are 2 piece foam virtualy identical to my finer filter but 1.5 times the price. BMC make good filters and have a good reputation in racing etc

free flow filters sounds great, but Im still prefering stock ones for a diesel powered car that goes often off the track.
