Hello
I have a Holden Rodeo 2.8Diesel Turbo with 4JB1 engine.
Just the other day I installed a boost release valve on the waste gate pipe of the turbo, and I adjusted the boost pressure up. UTE is now running much better.
However I noticed in the pipe alot of spoogy oil, and have now noticed this blowing out of the boost release valve that I installed. My assumption is that the turbo internal seals are failing, and releasing oil into the inlet manifold. Is this a correct assumption ??.
Also I am going to fit a top mount intercooler from a Isuzu Bighorn. However I am told the the turbo cannot be rotated enough to fit the intercooler, because the waste gate gets in the way. Is this correct, and does anyone have a solution for this.
tks for you opinions. Darrin

The oil is most likely comeing from the breather on top of the tappet cover. Some Isuzus make a lot of blowby although nothing is realy wrong with them. To check have a look at the inlet to the turbo If theres oil there then thats where it comes from. Search for posts on catch cans if its enough to be a problem. What year Rodeo. The early turbos are the same as the bighorn with the 4jb1 engine but later ones could use the turbo from the 4jg2 engine. The early ones no problem the latter ones I was always under the impression couldnt be changed but have now seen one that was changed. The only issue is that one bolt hole doesnt line up and has to be redrilled and tapped

Geeves
Thanks for the quick reply. I did think of the blowby, as being the problem. I will have to check further.
I have 2000 model, so its the latter turbo. I have only just received by intercooler kit, so I haven't had a look at the mounting problems. But if its just drilling a hole and retapping, no problem.
How does all this excess oil affect the intercooler, I guess I should drain it off somehow.
tks Darrin

I have searched posts, and it seems that my problem is mostly blowby. I will install a catch can.
tks for your help.
