Hi, Just want to know if it is possible to do a full LPG conversion on a diesel engine?
The reason i ask is the Australian government has changed the reqirements on the LPG rebate to include diesels, and if it's not possible to do a full conversion then that means that the rebate would apply to LPG/propane injection in diesels. If that's the case then it would make it the most ecenomical way of increasing power and reducing fuel costs.

2 ways to go. The hard one is replace your glow plugs with spark plugs and find a distributer that can replace your fuel pump wire it all up and away you go. Sounds a lot easier than it realy is but has been done before but it was done on a fleet of council trucks not Isuzu 4wds. Not impossible but close. easy way would be lpg injection ie find a kit that adds lpg to your intake either in addition to your diesel or instead of it. A few people have made there own setups and had good power gains and modest ecconomy improvments but these have been running less than 5% lpg. The comercial kits tend to run about 30% lpg These were trialed a year or so in an Aussi 4wd mag and fairly impressive. I dont know what your lpg is priced like but useing the NZ lpg and diesel price and full price on the kit the pay back was around 60000km A rebate from the govt would change this. You can run up to 90% LPG in a stationary engine but its not recomended to go above 50% in automotive engines I dont know why. Talk to a few conversion places They should know what works and what doesnt.

Check out this site: www.dieselgasaustralia.com.au/default.aspx?ID=HomeThey have all the info on what you can do to get LPG on a diesel and get your 2 grand rebate from the government. I does not replace diesel fuel, but supplements it to improve the power & economy

Yes thats the website that i looked at, they had an article in 4wd monthly a little while ago. I guess i should ring them and see if i would be eligable for the $2000 rebate. I'm just not sure if you can only get the rebate with a full conversion.
;D Fingers Crossed ;D
Thanks for the input fellas

From what I understand, you will get the rebate with one of these setups, but it's certainly worth a call.
I will attempt to talk to one of my local Diesel Gas installers in the next week.

By the way, when you start to use LPG , will you still to pay the special tax for 30 dollars per 1000kms?

Thats a very good question. The way it works in NZ I would expect that the answer would be yes you still have to pay. But if you do a fully legal system you might be able to claim back the tax built into the LPG sold for road use. If you do a home built system useing bbq bottles you dont pay any extra tax so nothing to claim. (bbq bottles are not certified for road use so should never get a wof although they seem to be getting through at the moment)

So, which way more budget? Keep use diesel or do a fully legal LPG system?

Currently LPG is cheaper and probably will be untill full scale bio diesel is available and LPG starts running out. I dont know how diesel/lpg hybrids are taxed hopefully a conversion place could answer that. The normal conversion still runs up to 50% diesel as one catylises the other and lpg wont ignite itself in a compression ignition setup. The other way of converting to 100% LPG would be very expensive and may not be possible. The first step is converting your engine into a petrol engine ie lower compression spark plugs etc. It would be cheaper to fit a 2.6 or 3.2 petrol engine and convert that.
