Has any one else herd of removing the egr valves then placing a replica plate of the base of the egr valves and placing it on there bolting it on and blocking this off, also pluging the vacume lines that lead to the egr valves, apprently this helps to prolong the life of the engine...?? mith or fact? ive got a friend who's 2.7 has this done he also removed the quik warm buterfly in the exhuast.
Any opinons or facts on this matter?
Cheers Matt

The butterfly mod is less common as its a pain to do on the isuzu 2.8 setup. If you have the turbo out its worthwhile but otherwise unless its faulty not worth the effort. It only does anything if the temp of the water is below 10C and you operate the quick warm up switch. The EGR is common to remove It helps performance and ecconomy by removeing it or disabling it with a large ball bearing. Mine was removed before I bought my wagon 9 1/2 years and 100000km ago so it doesnt hurt reliability. Bear in mind that new laws in the pipeline might require these valves to be put back although they shouldnt do that to old dungers like ours. If you remove the valves you also need to seal off the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the valves by welding

Whats an EGR valve, what does it look like and can this be done on a 3.1? Thanks

There's more information and pics already on this site. If you use the search function, or look in older posts in the Modifications section under exhaust & engine, you should find all the good details.
I have blanked off the exhaust side of the EGR pipe and it made no noticeable difference to power or economy.
Cheers, Graham.
