I've started playing musical turbos. The old one has collapsed bearings and leaking seals. While preparing replacement [drilling out broken stud, shifting air outlet to suit i/c] I started thinking about increasing boost. The old one made 8 psi before the waste gate opened.Does anyone know how far it opens, like just a little bit or wide open?I was thinking of fitting a spring to the waste gate arm to increase the tension against the actuator or blocking the hole on the no pressure side to provide some back pressure. Any thoughts? I could fit a regulator in the actuator hose as has been done by some people but I thought that while its's all in bits I could try something different. Regards,Harry.

You could fit a higher pressure waste gate actuator but a boost controller would be the easiest way to go.
Let me know how you go sourcing a new turbo. I am looking at using a RB20 or RB25 turbo on mine.

The turbo I've used is a 96 rodeo one off a stuffed motor I bought some time ago.The inlet housing is marked RB25.while it's out I've taken off the exhaust butterfly and shaft and plugged the holes. It was an early non i/c dump pipe with a heavy return spring on the butterfly.I cut the spring in half and rebent the ends so it would wrap around the wastegate shaft and hold it shut. When I get it all back together I'll see if boost has improved.Problem is of course the clutch still slips so any power increase won't be much use until that's sorted. Regards,Harry.
