Has anyone put a aftermarket wastegate on there 4jg2 or 4jb1t? I have just rotated my 4jg2 turbo and cant be assed making up a bracket for the factory wastegate. I thought i might be able to use the EGR flange on the exhaust manifold to mount a wastegate.

Why change the factory one unless its faulty?

well 2 reasons, i have just rotated the compressor housing, as i said above, therefor the factory wastegate now no longer has mounting holes in the correct place, and the second reason is i want to up the boost a little and id rather do it via a wastegate spring rated at the desired boost i want, rather than an adjustable boost T which are prone to boost spikes. The flange for the EGR pipe looks the same size and shape as alot of aftermarket wasegates, and there are some cheap tial replicas around. I have allready removed the valve from the turbo and will be getting the internal wastegate port welded up. Then install a wastegate on the EGR flange,

ill have some pictures up shortly of my 38mm wastegate install and bighorn intercooler set up that i have on my 3.1 MU. The wastegate is good for 14psi and is being mounted on the EGR flange, i just have to get a small angled bit of pipe welded between the EGR flange and the flange that came with the wastegate, its at the fabbys rite now.

well its all done minus the scoop. The wastegate is ment to open at around 14psi, the sound it makes when it does isnt like the boy racers ones, im asumeing its opening, i havent installed the boost guage yet. But one things for sure its hauling ass on the road. ill have the pics up shortly onces the scoops on.

I take it that you haven't got it plumbed backinto the exhaust down pipe and it's just venting straight out. You might have to change this to get a WOF. I bet it does sound good. What did you pay for the waste gate?

wastegate was $150nz, nah its not plumbed back, i havent heard it at all so im starting to think that the 14psi spring in it is to much and its not opening.

Do you have a hose going to the top of the wastegate? You will need to fit a boost gauge to see what it gets to.

how do i insert pics into a reply? Pics need to be hosted and you link to them from the reply. I believe there are free hosting places like photobucket? and some others. If you want to email them to me, I am happy to host and place here as well. federalaffair@krigon.com.au

Any luck with the wastegate problem? I'm thinking of doing the same as you but maybe with a lighter spring,

I just got to find somewhere to host them. Yeah i have a 14.5psi spring but its to heavy its not opening, so im getting either a 7psi or 10psi spring. but yeah good results it goes like a bat outa hell on the road, havent tried it offroad yet.

14.5 is a good pressure for a diesel All it means if its not opening is that you have never hit that amount of boost. Remember diesels don't get that massive pulse that petrols do when you lift off because the diesel engine doesn't have a control on airflow like the butterfly in a petrol engine that needs tightly controlled mixture. This is also why lag is less of a problem on diesels
