???G'day my MU has lost alot of it's power in general (touqu, acceleration) and now dosn't start real well! when it dosae start she sounds like it's running on three pistons and blows a fair chunk of white smoke which stops as soon as it gets a good rev and the third piston starts, is also idaling a bit rough. This happened as soon as I replaced the timing belt at 100000km if htat gives anyone a hint and the locking bolts went back in after the belt was fitted and turned over? I'm stumped!

Ohh, sounds nasty!! could be clogged injectors if you are lucky!!
Gevees or james know what the different colors of smoke mean though!!

White smoke means not hot enough to burn the fuel, usually it's a problem with glowplugs, but timming can do the same thing and as the timming belt has just been done I imagine thats your problem.
You need to get the timming ckecked out as soon as you can, I would not be comfortable driving it in case the timming is way out and you'll risk damage. It is simple to check the timming however.
Who did the timming belt?

could be bad injector or head gasket but my money is on the timing belt being a tooth out. If you did it yourself did you use the bolt holes in the pulleys to lock the pulleys in place Theres 3 10mm bolt holes that line up with threaded holes in the block for this purpose. A year ago one of our Aussi cousins had this A week later he had a bucket of bolts where the engine used to be. I think the garage that did the belt paid but it got ugly and lawers made lots of money

Cheers guys I'll check out the timing as it sound like the most likley scenario. my partners uncle (who is a mechanic) and I changed the belt but we found the bolt holes and used them but I was still a bit suss on how it went back together too. cheers again.

sounds to me like the fuel pump is one slot out (not sure which way) on the timing belt, this happened to me a few years ago on a diesle van and ran horribly until I re did the timing, very easy to get it out even using the alignment holes etc.

Further thoughts; Maybe you have got the timming right, but it wasn't right before and now you have corrected it it has put it "out". I'll exlpain... Maybe the the timming belt was put on one tooth out sometime in the past and was corrected by rotating the injector pump to bring the timming back in line.... and now you have followed the marks it has put it out of timming? So have you gone back and done the full timming procedure? That is the timming belt, all the marks and injector pump rotation? Time to get the manual out and check pump rotation/position. See; www.homepages.paradise.net.nz/~jbwhyte/InjectionTimming.pdfA static timming guage will tell you all. This instruction however uses the genunine Isuzu guage so is given as an absolute 2mm measurement. The Haynes manual has a procedure for a relative measurement with a standard dial guage, which I forget the exact procedure for right now. I'd have to look it up but it was along the llines of measure with a dial guage at No. 1 away from TDC compression (or max inwards?), set dial guage to zero then measure at No 1 TDC Compression.

thanks for the feed back guys I havn't been able to look at it yet as I injured myself and was a tad debilitated! but I plan to have a look this week so I'l fill you all in whebn I know what happened, or I'l come back with more questions
