Hey All Asked to have a look at a english imported 98 3.1TD trooper for a friend thinking of buying one. Haven't seen it yet but my friend is suspicious of it being a 98. I asked him about it in comparison to my 93. He told me there's two batteries like my 93. I remember asking about the two batteries in my trooper in the old forum and why there's two. I've check the old forum and done search for this thread but cann't find it. From what i remember i though they were switched to a single battery around 95. I know i've seen a 95 3.1 with just one battery Also what engine should it be, is it the 4JG2 engine in 98 or a later model engine. Going to see it at the wkend. Any ways of telling exactly what year it is Had a look at english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/isuzu/There's no trooper listed but check out bighorns. Says 98 have the 4JG2 engine. Confused Niall

If its a trooper then its manufactured for a non Japenese market (with a few exceptions this vehical was sold as Bighorn in Japan and Trooper everywhere else) As such it may be a 97 first registered in 98 or a 98 using the last of the old production runs. Normaly I would expect the 4jz1 engine in a 98. It might also of had and engine swap due to the problems with the early 4jz1 engines. What is the first 5 characters in the chassis number?

The 4jz1 engine is the 3.0L???
I'm not worried that its a 3.1L instead of a 3.0L engine there's plenty of 98 3.1L troopers about. the 3.0L didn't arrive here till at least mid-98 I think it's trying to be passed as a 98 instead of something earlier and if that's not right what else isn't right about the jeep. So if i know that 98 shouldn't have two batteries i'll tell my mate to walk away cos he's very enthusiastic about cos its seem to be a good in very good condition. If the owner had to own up to a switch engine in the first place it won't be a issue. He may not know enough about it though cost he's the second owner also.
Also this whole think is starting to bug me as well. Staring to question myself if it was a 95 with a single battery
I haven't seen the jeep geeves and i don't have the chassis number, sorry.... What should the range of chassis numbers be for a 98 trooper

I think that dual battery is a cold climate option. several Mus have this as well but other mus of the same year dont. Dual battery is the way to go if you intend to fit a winch
