hey guys.. my mu is pretty good these days... just yesterday tho, on a drive to auckland the oil gauge is going nuts..up n down... like crazy...i figure the wire to the oil presure sensor is loose... but where is it located???

look down between the alternator and engine mount there abouts on the exhuast side if i remember rightly but it helps if you let us in on what engine ?

ok.replaced oil sender. still have same problem. oil presure is going nuts..its up and down..basically depending on engine speed... any ideas people? oil pump?? theres plently of oil..and its running beautifully...... except for this crazy oil presure guage...

Between what ranges? Some variation is normal especialy when hot but depends on how much. When very hot mine idles just above 1 but hits 4 by 1500 revs. Stone cold its 4 at idle

mine goes nuts.. sometimes it will go all the way from the bottom to the top..other times its fine.. or it could jsut start flicking up and down like mad. the oil light will come on and off sometimes too...

Check the earthing on the motor although this shouldnt affect the oil light. I would also be fitting a mechanical gauge very quickly to verify that oil is going where its meant to. Just do a temp mount and screw it in in place of the current sensor. good luck

well..yeah..good idea... the oil seems to get round fine.. specially seeing as ive just done 600 ks round trip with no problems.... and whenever i check the oil there seems to be right amount in there.... just this stupid guage... which... was fine all the way to auckland and then jsut started going nuts on the way back yesterday.. sigh!!

Just looked at the electrical diagram It looks like theres a voltage reducer in the circuit. Ive had one of these fail on an old car causing similar results. Dont ask where is it or what does it look like I dont know

castigan if your oil light is coming on and off as well it sort of tells me that you have and issue with your oil pressure itself and your guages are working fine,think its time to check oil pump and hopefully its that or it may be blocked gugeons or bearings starting to fail,my guess is the oil pump is failing,get it checked asap mtcw
