Looking for a company could be in Melbourne that does injector exchange as ive been told that mine are cactas. The local deisel joint told me $80.00 /$240.00 each for the 3.1, could not tell which untill he removed one. Had the MU on the dyno trying to solve the overheating problem, there info sugested new injectors. Thanks for the help. Dave

Hi Dave, the people in Melbourne are Hiflo and the web site www.hiflo .com.au they may not have injectors (exchange one's) for the 3.1 but they may be able to help you out. Iam using their fuel additive and I think it works ok. I would think about $55 to $75 per injector for a new nossel, give me a call if you don't do any good with them and I'll do a bit more reserch. Cheers Bruce

Hi, I had mine done by a crew in Williamstown on Koroit Creek rd. Cost $125 each. Morris and Williams from memory. Let me know if you want there details, and I'll find the invoice. They have worked on both 3.1's and 2.8 MU's.
I spent lots of cash on heating problem and finally got to the bottom of it. It has been tested on a 30+deg day, fully loaded. Very Very Happy.
I got bad and good advice bad and bad = exspensive. Injectors made no difference for me, but they needed doing. I have a spare fan clutch, water pump, auto & computer... if you want to try those.
If you want some details on what I have learnt, let me know.
Cheers, Pete

"Had the MU on the dyno trying to solve the overheating problem, there info sugested new injectors."
Whats the link between injectors and overheating? I could imagine bad timming could cause overheating, but injectors?

James its getting warmer because it is over fueling. Dave is it blowing a lot of smoke? I would think it would have to be if it is over fueling. If it yes not might have to do some more research. Cheers Bruce.

If it's overfueling then would it not be an injector pump problem rather than injectors? However if the injectors open at to low pressure then the fuel injection time would be to long... result, bad timming rather than over fueling? Same quanity of fuel delivered by the injector pump but over a longer period of time.
Also if it was overfuelling I would think you would have lots of black smoke?
I'm not sure, just my thoughts.

Injectors can cause overheating due to poor combustion for whatever reason. The dont tend to cause overfuelling though....thats all the Pump.
They can cause dribble, due to worn nozzle, poor needle spring, clogging. This causes loss of power over heating and bad idle/run on.
A weak needle spring will cause all of the above too, the spring keeps the injection pressure high and also allows for sharp cut off after injection to prevent dribble.
Blocked or worn nozzles will give a cruddy spray pattern, causing incomplete combustion (poor power/black smoke) and over heating. You dont have the flame front travel through the combustion chamber and some fuel will be exhausted without burning, so you lose power, create hotspots and dump all that good fuel out the ehaust as black smoke!!
So I guess injectors can cause overheating but its rarely just them, expect at least 200 000km before they could give you trouble!!
Matt.

I was at a 4by place today in the outer north and he says they do all types of work. (was looking at suspension). He had his hydro-bent conrod on the workshop bench!
Back of their card reads
-specialising in 4WD -Genuine parts available -Diesel repairs -Service and tune ups -VACC (Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce) member.
They're called 4WD Heaven ph: (03) 9469 2266 located in Thomastown (near ARB Northern)
You could look at the yellow pages on the net.
Total 4WD in Epping, Melbourne is another specialist.
Lots of Truck/diesel places on the Hume Hwy as you're coming into town- around Ford HQ. good luck
ps. See you at the show ;D

The Mu has been overheating since i have started towing my trailer, the trailer is well under the max load limit. I have spent lots of money & time on this, had the coling system cleaned by the pros. No rectrictions in the top or bottom hose, thermostat removed then replaced. Had the radiator rodded heavly cloged, made very little differents. Then spoke to a V8 deisel specialist they told me that the dyno would tell all. Went to a respected deisel turbo shop, they put the Mu on the dyno. They then asked lots of questions about the truck. The fuel ratio was the same as a truck that had been addvanced. The pump had not been touched nor the turbo & the timing was fine. The only advice the could give was the nosle on the injectors were driblling the fuel creating over fuelling which creats overheating.
After the timing belt light had come on it looks like the Mu has done around 200.000ks. the belt was replaced 50.000k's ago.
This is getting on my goat, happy to spend the $'s but just can not put the finger on it. Also the truck does blow black smoke on start up. It's not down on power, it idles at about 1100rpm. Any one with info could help the truck's overheating.
Dave
