which is better, a timing belt or having gears. i know that the 1995 holden jackaroo 3.1L turbo diesel you can ones that have timing belts and ones that have gears...so what one is better in the long run, and what one will cost more when and if it breaks?

Each have there advantages In nz if I was getting an engine I would get the belt because it is more common but in Aus that might not be the case. You cant retrofit one to the other without a lot of pain and suffering

Gears are lower maintenance
