when i brought my mu the fan belt was a bit loose and would slip after start up for 5 min or so, i tightend it up and it was sweet, after a long 3 hour drive across the south island i noticed that i was really loose again and slipping, so i tightened it up again and made sure i done up the bolts to the alternater really tight but after a small amount of driving around again its started loosing up again. what would be causing this? maybe the belt needs to be replaced? please help

Is it the belt to the alternator or the air con and power steer. Also what contition are the belts in. If when you twist the belt over you see lots of cracks replace them. If they are obviuosly new it might just be initial strech. The alternator can be a pig to adjust tight enough and there is no shortcuts

Are you setting the tension by using the jacking screw, or just pushing out on the alternator and locking of the mount bolts?? If you don't use the jacking screw, the pull on the belts will move the alternator in very quickly.
