Started the wizard today, and i happened to depress the accelerator a wee bit by accident the let it off and the revs went right down and it died Started it again and took the revs up to ~1500 then off the gas and it did it again? Is this just because it was started from cold or somthing worse? BTW it wasnt that cold today in hamilton and it only went for a service last month Ive also noticed that if i dont warm it up for a few minutes before i reverse out the drive it almost dies when you start off

help! I have a 98 Bighorn 3.0 4jx1. I had noticed that the oil pressure would take 3 -6 sec to come up when starting, by all accounts not too abnormal for these engines. However just recently had noticed oil light coming on when at idle , and would go out again when revs come up. It was due for its service so took it in to our local guy. He did a manual pressure test with external guage. When started cold pressure was great for 50 mins or so & then would drop away dramatically. Have changed all filters, new oil, pressure sensor switch etc, no difference. Any ideas. I'm on the North Shore, local Holden/Isuzu agents want to tear it apart to find the problem, not keen on that approach or $$$$. Anyone had this before/know of a cure or at least what to look for. Thanks

wood mean that after the oil gets hot and thin the oil pump clearences are to great to pressurise the oil to send it up to the head etc. maybe i am wrong?? geeves? could try runnin thicker oil?

dont put thicker oil in that engine. You regret it next cold morning for sure. The usual suspects for this A the test was done with clean oil and filter? It should of been B Bypass valve in the oil pump has a bad spring C Worn oil pump D worn bearings E Internal Oil leak F a special just for these engines diesel dilution of the oil This last one is not nice and shouldnt of happened if you had the injector seals replaced as part of the recal on this engine. If the engine has had this happen then severe wear is a real possibility.
If it is still possible try cutting open the old filter to see whats inside it might give some clues as to where to look otherwise its try A and F first as all the others require an engine dismantle not the answer you wanted sorry

hey geeves, thanks for your input. The pressure test with the external guage was done after the new oil & filters. The wagon has done 200k's, and the injector seals were done as aprt of the recall.

It sounds like new oil pump and bearings then. Get a compression test before you start If the compression is down you might as well do a full recon or second hand motor. Get a couple of quotes before you start.
