Can anyone tell me whether the pump on the later 4JG2 with electronic injection can have it's mixture altered. My '96 Bighorn expells to much smoke (black), when starting up, then lesser visible signs once warm and idling, none when cruising but becoming heavy again as it's made to work harder. I suppose it could be injectors, but want to explore if it's running to rich first. I've checked the rear of the pump and can see no obvious screws and was told by a mechanic that it's set at factory and has no external adjustment. I'm just not certain he knows for sure as he looked about 20 years old and he still got a torch to check he was right. On another thread, does anyone know what causes a intermitent idle fluctuation. Normally it idles with no problem, but occasionally fluctuates like a regular throb from around normal idle of 800 to 900 and sometimes 950 rpm. It happens whether the airconditioner is on or off. Thanks for any help.

I'm in Tauranga. I've been recommended a good mechanic here, so will take it in when I've got the spare time. Being the cheap scat that I am, I was hoping to be able to eliminate everything I could before spending my meagre money.
