Can anybody tell me the torque settings for the cyl head and rocker gear on a 4jb1t motor?

My Frontera manual lists the cylinder head bolts as Stage 1 49nm/36ftlb, Stage 2 angle tighten a further 60deg, Stage 3 angle tighten a further 60deg. I guess you'll need a degree wheel if youb want to do it properly. Rocker arm pedestal bolts are 54nm/40ftlb.
Hope thats what you are after. W.

That's what I need thank you.Does the manual mention anything about lubricating the bolts before tightening. The degrees of turn is easy.On a hex headed bolt 1 point or 1 flat is 60 degrees. Also there was a post about tappet clearances a while ago.0.4 mm from memory.Hot or cold? Thanks again,Harry.

Tappets should be set when the cold. I am not sure about bolt lubrication question though.

My manual says 'apply a smear of oil to the threads and the underside of the heads of the bolts'

Do remember to swab out any CRC or oil that got spilt/tipped sprayed down the bolt hols, the hydralic pressure of a head bolt squeezing half a cc of oil down the hole can crack a block... so don't over-oil.

You absolutley must oil the surface where the underside of the bolt-head mates to the cylinder head in all engines. This prevents the headstud from "gripping" the head surface and giving a "false" torque reading, resulting in blown head gaskets.
