G'day fellas,
Prior to fixing the aircon, my economy was around 10L/100
After fixing it, the economy has shot up to 13L/100
Now I am not sure if that is driving style, as the 1st lot of economy was partially highway, albeit lots of right foot action.
The 2nd lot was no aircon, driven sedately and with aircon.
Would I be correct in maybe thinking that the aircon compressor might need a new bearing and it's causing a lot of drag?
3L/100 to run the compressor just seems very high to me.
Does anyone else even experience an increase in fuel usage with the aircon on?
thanks

That is extremely high in my book, especially with a Diesel. I don't even notice the drain in power when I turn my A/C on with a constant throttle.

Adam if your a Kiwi I would not have thought you would need an aircon ;D I notice a bit of a difference when I use mine, probably up to .5 kpl more. Cheers Bruce.

It does get hot in the summer. Some areas get almost as hot as Aussi occasionaly. I havnt noticed a differance with mine but dont use it that often. Take your belts off and turn the comporessor by hand. As the clutch wont be activated it should turn very freely with no noise or play. You could get fany and run a wire to the clutch to activate it But dont know how much resistance this should cause. 13km/liter is not good

nah I am a brisbanite, was only testing the aircon out as it recently got overhauled.
Will do another 100km with the aircon on & see if it's just a change of driving style that made the difference.
Actually, I put some diesel conditioner in the tank as well after the first 100km, so that may have also played a factor in a negative maner.
Will report back my findings.
cheers

Geeves: not sure if you realised this or not, but I am quoted 13L/100km, not 13km/L

I get 13L /100Km from my 3.1 Auto MU. Generally that's hard driving and short distances.
2.8 manual MUs seem to get the best economy figures.
Cheers, Graham.

Maybe wasnt filled properly before the 13l/100km or you have someone in your street that likes free diesel. Hopefully it was a boy racer that thought it was petrol

just an idea, but would the automatic locking hubs not disengaging result in 13L/100 or so ?
