HI there, I have a 98 bighorn with a 4JX1 motor which does not start. we changed the engine after the injectors went blowing the engine. got new injectors and sleeves etc and have coded them to the ecu as well as the pump. tech2 tells me that the injectors are off. it doesnt have a transponder key and no sign of any immobiliser. it has oil pressure to the pump and to the rail. also fuel to the pump and it is getting higher pressure to the rail. all to spec. problem is no supply to injectors and no pulse. any ideas what i am missing? any help appreciated cheers

Hi, If you have everything there except supply at the injectors and no pulse check your crank position/cam position sensors these are the sensors that give the ECU the necessary info for it to create a pulse signal at the injector to open them at the correct time! If the sensors are fine there's obviously some interruption between the ECU and the injectors so the signals aren't getting through! If the Tech2 tells you though that the injectors are off try testing them individually using the tech2 and check for voltage supply at your injectors as you activate them! I suspect it will change that message though once the vehicle is running so could be a standard message on the tech2! The most common cause on the 4JX1 not starting is that the wrong engine oil has been used(BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!!) if the oil is slightly too thick these engines will absolutely refuse to start!! Hope this helps you!

Hi there, we have finally got this one sorted.. it was all to do with how the flywheel is mounted. you get no. 1 cyl to tdc and then fit the flywheel with a locating mark either to the top or to the bottom depending on wether or not it is a manual or an auto. the notch goes to the bottom for manuals. the engine we had got must have been out of an auto and we had a manual. easy fixed after reading about eleven thousand pages of the workshop engine rebuild manual thanks for your help hope i can repay it someday you guys were both right by the way all the best

Im guessing the crank position sensor is on the flywheel. Why cant manufactures use the same setup for all varients of any particular model. Its not only Isuzu guilty of this one
