I've been changing my oil and filters for years on various cars, but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the oil filter out of my 3.1 Jazz without removing the torsion bar - obviously not the solution. I can get the filter undone and off but can't remove it from the engine bay (or get the new one in). I know there is going to be an obvious answer, but "help"

Hi I bought an spider wrench about a month ago. And today, just 2 hours ago, I did my first oil/filter change with this new tool in my 2.8Td. It was incredibly easy remove the filter. cheers

Theres a rubbery cover on the inner gaurd that the filter can be squezed through but the wheel has to come off first. On non intercooled motors though the filter can be lifted all the wat out the top with a filter wrench similar to Danis. After 8 years of my bighorn Im good at filter changes and can do them in under 20 min. Compares well to well under 5 min for normal cars

Out the side may work, it doesn't for me any more, am going to get a remote filter kit and try to mount it on the chassis somewhere as i don't want ot have to take my intercooler off each time!!

not really any obvious answer actually. i am sure it will go down as one of life's great mysteries. something else you may wish to consider. once you have the offending filter out of its prison, there are a few different filters out there for the 4jg2 and they have different outside diameters. if you miss by a fraction, perhaps a filter with a smaller o/d would solve your problem. has you jazz been lifted ?

I had a similar problem with my Bighorn. I found that the distance between the torsion bar and chassis decreased on elevation.
When I left the vehicle on it's wheels, the filter would just slip through the gap.
There are 2 filters listed. From memory the narrower one has Z558 on it.
