Hi all,
Does anybody know a good place to get a 3.1 Mu turbo repaired in Sydney, preferably North Shore ish.
I blew a seal in mine (that's what the NRMA guy told me) after a day of play up in the Blue Mountains. Luckily (?) it happened on the the main road and not down some deep gully somewhere.
Cheers, Kendrick.

Hey there,
I believe that Garrett turbos have an office/workshop in Sydney somewhere and if anyone knows turbos they should.
Since the 3.1 turbo is supposedly not serviceable, I don't know what your options will be, but you can always give them a call.
Cheers, Graham.

Any idea which seal you have blown in the Turbo? J Not yet as I haven't taken it to a workshop yet. I've just been looking into what it will cost me to replace the whole turbo, as it always did make a bit of a whine noise. Cheers, Kendrick.

There is a place in Narellan that advertises to be the only place in Sydney that CAN rebuild a turbo!!! They have all the equipment to balance and rebuild it proplerly. They are also diesel specialists for all your infjectors and pumps etc! Might be worth giving them a call! I spoke to them a few times about getting my injectors done and they were very accommodating even with the MU but never got aroound to doing it before I left Sydney! Im pretty sure they were called JC Diesel?? Narellan. Not north Shore but it wont hurt to get you inbreds south of the river once in awhile!! Hope that helps! ;D Matt.

Narellan is certainly a long way south of the river . I had a quote today from GCG Turbos for a new one, $1300 inc GST (Aus$). I never was comfortable with the turbo whine that it always gave so I might just suck it up and buy the new one now rather than later. Will make a decision when I get the current one pulled apart. Cheers, Kendrick.

Well here is an update on what is going on. The turbo has been pulled apart and discovered that the nut holding on some shaft inside has decided to go out on an adventure on its own. But it didn't get very far and ended up having an argument with some of the other bits inside when it tried to invade their territory. There wasn't really any winners with this arguement, only losers. The nut is now jammed inside where it shouldn't be and some of the impellor blades are broken. Cheers, Kendrick.

Well, I am up and running again with a new turbo fitted. The one I had put in was an IHI RH5F VICD, as I was told that this was the replacement for the IHI RH5F VAIO that others had mentioned. On the trip back home from the workshop I did notice that it was a bit more perky than normal so that is always good. I'll have to go and initiate it this weekend .... Cheers, Kendrick.
